Question 0x80040217 or crappy DVD frame rate: Choose One

Hi everyone,

I'm trying sage right now. I nuked Vista MCE for MythDora, and finally gave up on that too. Now I'm trying SageTV on top of Windows XP Pro 32bit.

My goal is to be able to:

a) watch/record TV/HDTV
b) play my ripped DVD collection (all legally purchased).
c) play my ripped Blu-ray and HD-DVD collection (ditto).

I use clone DVD and Anydvdhd.

The TV viewing works fine. It finds my ripped DVD's no problem. But the DVD playback is completely choppy.

So I installed ArcSoft's TotalMedia Theater, but when I try to tell Sage to use these decoders, I get -4,0x80040217 for everything.

Also, I have to run the system in non-exclusive mode, otherwise, again, I get the -4,0x80040217.

I am running my 7800 thru analog VGA. I have a shitty Samsung 5078 (with a big black shadow down the side), which only does 1080p through VGA, not HDMI. So I wondered if the error was due to not using DVI, and switched to a very ugly 1080i DVI-to-HDMI output.

Now I can run in exclusive mode, but the performance has not changed.

I have successfully used ArcSoft Theater to play disc and ripped blu-ray and HD-DVD at 1080p VGA so its not like my PC is braindead.

Honestly, I can live without the Blu-ray/HD-DVD stuff and live with using the ArcSoft for that, but the movies are for my kids and they need to "just work".

I have read the FAQ and the troubleshooting FAQ. I tried the DXVA option. I have tried every combination of overlay, FSE etc. I either get the error, or crappy performance on DVD. HDTV either works fine or errors.

Hopefully some of you will have surmounted these same problems.

Advice gratefully appreciated,

Jamie

My System:

AMD X2 6000+
4GB DDR2 800
ABIT KN9 SLI
One 7800 GS 256mb
Hauppauge 150MCE x2
HD Homerun
Seagate 500Gb, 2x750Gb
Realtek HD onboard sound.
