USB-UIRT will not send code...

Hey all,

WAF is seriously waning here. For several weeks recordings were not being made. The recording always had the Dish Network Logo floating around the screen. I got to looking into it and found that the IR blaster connected to my PVR-150 was not sending the codes from Sage. Codes sent just fine from WinTV. So, I reisntalled the drivers, etc. to no avail. Somone here suggested getting the USB-UIRT, so I did. Now I cannot get the thing to work. I have tried several IR files, and even used the IR helper utility. No matter what I do though, the USB-UIRT will not attempt to change the channel. The red light on the unit never flashes. Currently running Sage 6.3.10.166.

Please help, the fall season is coming up, and my wife hates to miss her ER, CSI, and a couple of other shows. PLEASE HELP or my Sage days are limited.

What type of set top box are you using (model number)? When you used IRHelper, did the channels change? If not, when reading the code with IRHelper (or when programming SageTV), put the remote very close to the USB-UIRT, like 2 - 3 inches. Is the set top box always turned on?

Check the first lines of your IR file. I used to have a JVC-301 Dish Network set top box. The first two lines were:

jvc301 56000 411 2 200 200
RepeatCount 4

Often times, the repeat code configuration is a problem.

If all of that still does not work, can use use the USB-UIRT with another device, such as a TV, that uses IR to test the USB-UIRT ability to control some other IR device.

Are you sure it isn't sending the numbers? If the dish box goes to sleep, it won't wake up unless you hit power or select (number keys won't do it). You have to turn off the Inactivity Standby feature in the Dish STB's menus. I have also noticed that after the box auto-updates, it will go to sleep, so you should turn off Auto-Update as well. Once I did these two things, I have never seen the floating Dish logo as my recording.

Latest Update:

When watching live TV, the Sage Server will not send the codes to the USB-UIRT. The red light on the USB-UIRT never flashes when I change the channel. The Dish Box is not asleep, and it is not in a "just updated" mode. I had those problems with it even before now.

I really need help here. I am about to totally give up on this. It does not seem to work at all for me.

I hope I am not hijacking your thread, but I have a similar problem with my USBUirt. Whenever I upgrade Sage to a new version, the USBUirt stops working until I re-train Sage with its remote. I have tried saving and restoring the Wiz.bin file, but no help. This is very annoying.

Have you tried re-training the USBUirt after an upgrade?

Maybe someone can point me, and perhaps you, in the right direction to retain the codes.

The remote codes have an extension of .ir and are stored in the sage folder's sub folder named common\remotecodes. You can save that entire folder or just save the USB-UIRT Transceiver folder in the remotecodes folder.

I don't have Dish so hope someone else chimes in here; I read somewhere that the stock USB-UIRT doesn't emit the frequencies needed to control the Dish receiver and that you need a special 56KHz IR USB-UIRT. Please don't take my word for it though without googling USB-UIRT and Dish receiver.

Tested this morning and it is changing channels with the "irhelper" utility. I am thinking this might be one of those situations where a reinstall of Sage will fix things. I have downloaded 6.4 and plan on installing it later this afternoon to see if it fixes anything. If not, I guess I will submit a request for hardware support to Sage.

I am thinking since it was not sending the remote codes with the old setup, and the new setup is also not sending codes that it is something with the overall installation.

I will update tonight after I try this update.

Current Update:

Man did I screw things up. I updated to 6.4.8 and nothing works now, although the channels will change. Now my EPG is screwed up, everything is a wreck. This is probably it for me and SageTV. Nothing works right.

I had problems with my EPG after all my messing around. I ended up removing all my sources and then added them back to force a clean guide install and everything came out OK after that.

Thanks for the info, I never would have found it.

Everything looks like it is working now. How I got it fixed, I am not quite sure, but it is fixed. Now, just to regain my confidence in the whole process.

THanks for the help,
Rob HIx
