Can't play HD-PVR or dvr-ms files on client
I am trying out the SageClient and while I can play mpeg files, divx files, TV captured from firewire and files recorded with an analog tuner card (PVR-150) I cannot play TV recorded on my HD-PVR nor can I play dvr-ms files recorded by MCE (not that this is even though this client PC can play this same file in WMP).
Do I have to install any additional codecs to play these files? Currently I have tried the Cyberlink audio and video decoders and the Sage decoders. FOr dvr-ms files the error I get is sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-4,0X80004005): There was a problem redering the video portion of the content for playback. For the HD-PVR files I get the error is that it can't render the audio portion. Any ideas? |

Codecs for playing back H.264 files in SageClient
It appears that you need to install some codecs to play H.264 content (from an HD-PVR) on SageClient. Is it posible to just install the Arcsoft codecs, and not the entire app? If so how? Or is there some other codec that I am better off using? The default codec doesn't seem to work at all.

Just install Total Media extreme from the Hauppauge install CD. It's in the TME directory on the CD. That'll resolve your video HD-PVR issues on the client. The h.264 decoders need to be on each client that will be used for HD-PVR content.
What OS are you running? If i's XP, I remember there being some issue with viewing drv-ms files on non-MCE machines. There a MS KB on it as well as a fix. Search around on the MS website for play dvr-ms in WMP and things like that and you'll find it.

Thanks ghostlobster - is this the same for Placeshifter - you have to install TME on any and all clients? Is this technically legal?
The OS is XP Pro - I will look for what you mention but I just tried and I definitely can play dvr-ms files on the client in WMP by just double clicking on the dvr-ms file in a shared folder from my MCE box. With Arcsoft I can play the files recorded on my HD-PVR but the PC is not fast enough to play back the HD files although it is okay with the SD files. This PC is something like a 1.8GHz running XP Pro. |
