xmltv Time Zone Problem
I'm having a time zone issue with xmltv. I live in the AST time zone. Only Canada has AST, not the US. It is one hour ahead of EST. For listings of local services, no problem. Everything comes down as it should. However, I'm trying to get DirecTV listings which are only available in the US. Therefore, in order to get DirecTV as an available service, I have to feed xmltv an American ZIP code. In my batch file, I set the time zone to AST. When the listings comes down, all start and end times have "AST" appended to the end of the date/time. However, the times provided are actually EST times. The ZIP code I am feeding is in the EST time zone. Is this causing the problem? How can I get around this? Help!

UPDATE:
Thinking that somehow xmltv was picking up the New York ZIP Code and therefore supplying EST times instead of AST times, I re-ran the xmltv configuration and entered "00000" as the ZIP Code. I was given the generic "DirecTV - USA" as an available provider, so I picked it. However, even though xmltv identifies my time zone as "AST" and has an AST tag appended to all of the program start and end times, the EST times are actually the ones provided. For example, here in the AST time zone, Friends comes on NBC on Thursday nights at 9:00PM. However, in the xmltv file, the start time is presented as "20020212200000 AST" which is 20:00 or 8:00PM, the EST start time. Is there anyone else out there running xmltv and DirecTV in the Atlantic Time Zone? I can't be the only one! I'd appreciate hearing of any other similar experiences. Thanks, Peter L. |

I'm going to take this to xmltv to see if I can get anywhere there. I'm seeing some really strange things now. When I first posted, the shows were showing up an hour earlier than they should -- as if they were EST times. Yesterday, they were showing up an hour too late! There isn't even a timezone in N.A. that is two hours ahead of EST! Now today, they are two hours too early -- as if they were CST times. I have not touched the setup over these days. The same batch update file has been running each night. In the same batch file, I'm also updating local Antenna and ExpressVu listings and they are always correct. This is weird!

I'm going to open up an new thread under "Sage TV Service". I probably opened this up in the wrong category. Sorry.
