Getting started: Channel names + TV guides for Norway

Hello from Norway!

I've just installed SageTV on my Windows Home Server and I must say I'm impressed!
But I do have some "problems" (or "questions" if you prefer):

1) I live in Norway and I would like to get the the local TV guide into SageTV. I've searched and I've found The XMLTV Import tool.
How do I use it? The post I've found aren't very clear on that...

2) Can I change the name and rearrange the channels? How do I do that? And is this a problem if I plan to use XMLTV?

3) Do I actually have to pay $30 for PlaceShifter on each machine I intend to watch TV on?
I have 5 different computers I use from time to time. That's gonna get expensive...

4) Some of my channels are skipping, but others don't. Why is that and what can I do about it?

Placeshifter & Extender clients use licenses on the server & you can hae as many simultaneous sessions as you have # of licenses. SageTV Client is licensed per PC; see this FAQ: What is the difference between SageTV Client and Placeshifter?

You can check my web site (see signature) all is explained. The first thing you'll have to do, is to find a XMLTV grabber to get your tv listing and feed the XMLTV file it produces to the Importer.

The XMLTV Importer will actually create the lineup, so you'll name your channels in the Importer. For rearranging the channels, if you are using a set top box or terrestrial analog, you'll not be able to (channel numbers have to be the physical channel numbers). If you are using digital terrestrial or satellite, you'll be able to rearrange channel in the index file SageTV use for tuning.

It depends on many things:

* TV reception type: digital / analog
* Video card used
* CPU used
* Hard drives
* MPEG2 / H264 codec used

Regards,
Stéphane.

For rearranging the channels, you should still be able to do so by remaping the LOGICAL channel number in SageTV's channel setup. The Logical is the number shown in the Guide. Physical number is the number sent to the tuner. As long as you have the channel's physical number set correctly, so that it is tuning properly, you should be able to remap the Logical number to place the channel at any spot in the guide you like.
