Noob Questions on Tuner Switching, HD stuttering, and Sagetray

Just migrated to sage from VMC for obvious reasons. Still using the trial but so far so good... SageMC and Ghostlobster's guide have been a huge help especially after setting the enter/ok button on remote to prev. chan., enabling the guide to return to the current channel on resume and reversing up/down on the mini guide it really feels pretty much the same as VMC as far as TV goes which has very much eased the transition.

As far as I can tell each time you change channels in sage it uses a new tuner if available and keeps recording the previous. Is it possible to stop sage from switching to a different tuner everytime I change the channel? I would rather sacrifice being able to rewind on the previous channel for faster channel changing.

Also I am having issues with occasional stuttering on hd qam with my HDHomerun. I can watch most channels for a few minutes and then they start to stutter to the point it is unwatchable. If I flip to a different channel and flip back then it goes back to normal. The same channels are stable in the HDhomerun viewer program for all I can tell.

Phew that was more than I planned on posting thanks for any info!

MY Setup
Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
Sage 6.3 trial
C2D 6300
3gb DDR2 800
ATI Radeon 3450
HVR-2600
ATI tv wonder 650 pci
HDHomerun

Update

hd stutter issue seems to get better or fix alltogether if I rewind a couple secconds and then watch. Going to try messing with the recording settings to see if i can get it working.

It sounds like you are playing too close to the end of the live recording. You could try changing these properties (the time is in milliseconds):
videoframe/local_encoding_to_playback_delay=2000
videoframe/time_behind_live_to_disable_fast_forward=6000
videoframe/time_behind_live_to_disable_skip_forward=4000

And, when you change channels during live TV, the previous show shouldn't continue to record unless it is being watched on another client or is a scheduled recording, such as a Favorite or Manual Recording, not just live TV. (Or, unless the SageMC interface is adding something to the process.)

Finally: you are mentioning multiple items in a single topic and are using customizations. It would probably be easier to track a single issue if you post about them separately. And, there is a customizations section of the forum that should be used when any customizations are active. It is difficult to distinguish a SageTV issue from a customization issue, so please try things with a default setup before posting in this part of the forum. I have removed the sagetray question, for example, & will send it via PM for you to post elsewhere.

Whoa! I gotta mess with those settings! I'm seeing a similar behavior with my HDHR. Thanks!

Changing those delay settings seems to fix it. Thanks! Watched some olympics tonight with no stuttering and that was by far the worst channel previously. I will go through sagemc settings for the tuner issue, although it's not really a deal breaker if I don't figure it out anyways.

I tried these settings and it will play smoothly when i open it up but then stops, also no audio. When I skip back 10 seconds audio plays and it plays video smoothly as well. Any settings that may better help? I tried increasing the delay to 10 seconds but that didn't help anything.

For an Audio Decoder I have PowerDVD 8 selected. Should I change that? The audio sync is waaaaay off. Probably 1.5 seconds.

I ran GraphEdit and saw video stutter using the CoreAVC decoder so I switched to the ArcSoft decoder. Video was great, Audio was great using the ArcSoft HD Decoder. I went back to SageClient Properties and changed the H264 decoder to ArcSoft. Then I opened up the SageClient, tried to watch Live TV and it played for about 5 seconds then froze. If I FF or RW it does the same thing. No audio either. Help please!

Outside of SageClient the .ts files play great.
