How do we remove the volume hardware control from sage?

This first started with the remote wonder I thought. What happened is that I noticed different volume levels between sageTV and Zoomplayer. I downloaded girder because I thought that I would be able to control the volume levels for each program while setting the volume level in the control panel and leaving it alone. This way if I leave SageTV at 1/2 level and start up Zoomplayer at 3/4 volume leve the sound output from Zoom would be 3/4 and not 37.5(3/4 the level of 50%)
Any way to do this?

I tried girder out and use the volume level control in sage and it still moved the volume level in the control panel.

Was this with the same Sage recorded files playing back in Zoomplayer. If not you could try editting the pvr's capture volume. I know this used to be possible with the PVR250/350.

I don't think that Sage has a separate volume level. Another thread mentioned that one way to see if Sage volume control was working correctly was to watch the system volume level and see if it changed when you changed the volume. Working from memory, though, I could be completely wrong.

On my system both Sage and Zoomplayer use the system volume. Are you saying that this is not the case? Or that they both react to the system volume changing but have different relative levels?

If the latter, I can think of two possibilities:

1) different audio decoders have different levels... notably PowerDVD used to be exceptionally quiet.... not sure if this has changed.... but you might want to check whether ZP and Sage are using the same or different audio decoders

2) You might also want to look at how the WAV volume and system volume are interacting within each application. I think that, depending on which audio renderer you are using, the WAV volume control may or may not come into effect.

I did try that. I half screen'd Sage and opened up the sound control panel where I could watch the volume output levels. When I raised and lowered the volume levels in sage I watched the volume level also change on the control panel. So I tried it with ZP doing the same thing and the control panels volume level(windows control panel) wouldn't change at all.

Salsbst-Both ZP and sage use the same decoders(sonic). I have a santa cruz and I have set both sage and ZP to use that but I will further investigate the wavout stuff.

Here was my thread over at the ZP forums.

I am using girder now to control all the software with the remote wonder.

AJ thats correct. Sage directly controls windows volume. Zoom outputs from 0 level up to the current windows volume. If tun sage down and put it to sleep, zoom will be stuck at whatever you left the volume at. What I did is map the app commands for controlling the windows volume to FF2 and rw2 in the default section of the irremote.ini. While watching zoom I can then increase the windows level using the remote. Its a pain. I dont know why sage does this.

What I did in Girder was use one of the OSD Volume controls and which maps to the main system volume. So instead of using Zoom's commands for volume it uses the main system volume and avoids this issue.

ditto. Despite my previous blathering above, I'm not sure what the problem is, frankly.

For me, it's nice that Zoomplayer has its own volume control in the mix since it allows me to "calibrate it" to the Sage volume. JR Media Center allows allows this in its DSP settings. Ultimately, once I have JRMC and Zoomplayer configured to match Sage's volume, it is nice that they all move in sync via the system volume, since it makes my Girder control system easier to manage.
