Sage and WHS PP1 Performance

I previously had Sage running on WHS and although it functioned fine I would get a fair amount of stuttering while WHS rebalanced and my MVP became pretty much unuseable. The new PP1 boasts some performance improvements so I'm wondering if anyone else is running Sage/WHS with no issue.

No issues. But then again I had no issues prior to applying the power pack. I'm also just using the bare minimum of its capabilities. I'm not duplicating any of the its shared folders. I only have the single drive in the pool. All other drives are outside the pool. It backs up 2 PCs on a nightly basis. Both are Sage clients. Actually the only issue I see is with HD-PVR recordings. There is a slight hesitation/pause that can occur 5-15 minutes into a recording and could repeat. I've seen 1 hour recordings that could have 2 or 3 of these pauses. If I rewind and play it back it still occurs in the same place so I think it is a recording issue. I haven't filed a bug report yet. All other analog and HDHR recordings do NOT have this symptom. I was going to wait until HD-PVR gets a new driver release.

Now that you mention it I was getting 'blips' in my recordings as well. I had about 4 TB of managed drives plus the unmanaged Sage recording drive.

I'll chime in with my setup, too. I have two unmanaged drives for recording (750gig and 500gig) plus two managed drives (500 gig each).

I have folder duplication turned on for pretty much all of my folders and the server runs Dirmon2/ShowAnalyzer. I backup two PC's each night. I upgraded to PP1 as soon as it came out. I've never experienced any stuttering or pauses on my hd100 either before or after installing PP1.

When I first set up Sage on WHS box I watched HD while the server rebalanced just to check and didn't have problems. Now I have no idea when the server is doing it's drive management, but I never see any issues. I should note that my server doesn't get much use beyond SageTV and the comskip stuff, though I do move downloaded AVI's to the pool every few days while my wife is watching TV.

I did forget to mention that I too run Dirmon and Showanalyzer. I only have them run after prime time because I usually don't watch the show until the next day. And if I am recording 2 HD streams from HDHR and the wife's analog show and it's all going on the same drive I have seen issues sometimes while trying to watch a recording from the same drive. But that's worse case. Most of the time the recordings are going to seperate drives and watching it then isn't an issue. It's just this HD-PVR thing that I noticed lately.

No problems here either. I've got two drives for recording in a RAID 0 (outside the pool of course) and hadn't noticed any problems before or after PP1. Still waiting for my HD-PVR to come back from RMA so I can't speak to Jerry's issue. As soon as it comes back, I will be running some stress tests with my HDHR and HD-PVR.

Just noticed that my sig is out of date. I am running an HD-PVR on the server as well. Also should point out that I have ShowAnalyzer set up to run without any blackout times, but only on one recording at a time.

Again, no problems with stuttering or pausing.

Rarely a stuttering problem before or after PPI install, but I did notice a lot less balancing since PP1 install. Just a standard setup with 11 pooled drives and 1 recording drive.
