ATI 650 w/ QAM

First off,

Yes, it's an ATI multimedia product, so it's good H/W, but the support is .

I bought it a long time ago when I heard it had ClearQAM support. Heh.

Product page:
http://ati.amd.com/products/tvwonder650/PCIe/index.html

Imagine my surprise when I couldn't get any digital TV support in VMC or Sage TV. Apparently, when ATI advertised ClearQAM support, they "forgot" to tell people ClearQAM was only limited to Vista + ATI Media Center. When people figured out that this was just a stupid marketing gimmick, all ATI did was update their product descriptions to include that verbage...in footnote 2. Screw you, customers!

OK...

1. Are there any free third party apps I can use to scan ClearQAM channels?
2. Is there any way to get ClearQAM working in SageTV?
3. Will SageTV support ClearQAM on the ATI 650 products in the near future?
4. Is there anyway to see what I might have gotten if ATI had done a decent job of supporting/promoting their product? A simple ClearQAM viewer?

Apparently, someone did get it working.

I installed GB-PVR, but it doesn't work. It crashes frequently. One time it "forgot" all of my tuner setup when I clicked the Edit button to change a minor detail on one of the tuners. The LiveTV button doesn't work. I have no guide data (not willing to pay $20/yr. to setup ClearQAM once) but added a channel manually -- still no live TV. I don't see where to scan for ClearQAM channels.

to say "no digital" is a bit extreme... it handles ATSC just fine

I said:

(a) *I* bought the card for its ClearQAM support.
(b) *I* couldn't get any digital TV support in VMC or SageTV.

What I don't get is how relating what *I* couldn't get equates to a general statement about the product's capabilities.

Maybe I should add a C?

(c) *I* didn't spend money on a 40-mile antenna.

Y'know, as glad as I am to hear that someone else had a better experience with this thing, when I spend hours trying to get a certain "feature" to work, it's not exactly very helpful (or kind) to be told that someone else has avoided the problem entirely, simply by not using that mis-advertised "feature."
