Does the Window Home Server version work with Hauppauge HD PVR?
Im ready to throw Vista out. I hate it every moment...
Can someone please tell me if the new hauppauge HD-PVR will work with Windows Home Server? I would like to have my home server work as my PVR then obviously access Sage from other computers in my house. I left Sage when Vista came knocking on my door, ive gone bald since then. I would have the USB HD device plugged into the WHS machine, then have one or 2 PC's with XP running the extender. I also plan to purchase a Sage HD extender if all goes well. I have had driver problems since WHS is actually Windows Server 2003 under the hood. Im hoping the hauppauge drivers dont have any issue. Thanks. Works fine. I have it running on my WHS server with the latest drivers but I am using a USB-UIRT to change channels on my STB. Why? I read some people having some issues and I had a USB-UIRT laying around. Works great and no issues. I received the first series that did not having any heat issues.

Hmmm-not sure of the DVB-S card. I have 2 x nVidia Dual TV cards, 1xHD-PVR and one HD home run. I have 2xMVP and 1xHD100 with 2x Sage PC clients. Everything else looks fine. WHS is set to backup all the PCs on my network including some Sage clients. I'm also not taking advantage of the pooled drives for TV recording but I am for other media files. (music, photo and dvd files). And it's not that you couldn't do what WHS does with other versions and tools, it's just easier to do with WHS. I have access to the media files either remotely through WHS or Sage's webserver. Other than updates I never reboot the server.

The pooled drives are great for providing a simple (but same-location) backup option. Like you, I use it for all of my media except SageTV recordings. With the PP1 release, I'll also start to move files from "My Documents" on my desktop and laptops to the drive pool. Quote:
I'm definitely a WHS convert, but IMO if you don't want the PC backup and pooled drives features (or if you want to also use the machine for desktop apps) then XP is likely a better choice. WHS does have a 120-day trial, but upgrading to the licensed version requires full re-installation--at least when I did it a few months back, anyway. Very frustating... Tim

The reason I invested in WHS so I could have a pooled storage with easy to setup redundant folders and backups. This is the one thing WHS excels at. If I need more storage I just add a drive and my virtual drive just got bigger. If I want to protect a folder with a checkbox I have data mirrored on 2 drives in my pool. If a computer on my home network has a hard drive crash, I pop a new drive in, boot with a recovery CD and WHS rebuilds it like it was that evening... its very cool actually
Currently I still have 2 computers running full time my new WHS and also my Vista based PVR. Every day I shake my head at Vista's POSness and decided if I can get an HD solution running on my WHS then I would back-grade to XP and run Sage again. This is good news, I'll go ahead and order a hauggauge system. Last edited by psychoholica; 07-30-2008 at 02:01 AM. |
