hooking direct tv up to capture card?

Hey all,
I made the plunge to direct tv and Im still trying to decide if I enjoy it enough to cough up the money every month. What Im trying to do is hook it up to my analog capture card. I previously had cable and had sage all working with that through the coaxial input. I plugged the tv-out coaxial from the direct tv reciever into my capture card but cant get it to recognize it. Sage thinks I still have cable. How can I change the settings to find direct tv instead of cable? Do I have to re-install sage? Also should i be using the svideo or Composite cables instead? Sorry for so many questions.. i looked around the forums and couldnt find a solution.

Thanks for any input!!(literally )

Have you tried removing that capture device from the Sage selection and then adding it again. I believe when you add it again, it will ask what type of transmission you are trying to receive with it.

Does your analog card have S-video or composite video inputs? You could try to capture the video that way too. I'm not sure what format the coaxial output on a sat STB is to know if it will be accepted by the capture card. But S-video or composite video should definitely work.

use the svideo connection - it will give you the best quality. Don't forget, that's only a picture... you still need to run L/R sound wires.

You will need to use an Svideo cable going from the back of your DTV receiver along with L-R RCA audio cables.

You cant use the tuner in the PVR card as it is not a SAT tuner, it is an OTA tuner "over the air" you can only use this with some cable systems and or a regular antenna.

You will then need to use either an IR blaster, or serial control for Sage to change the channels on your DirecTV receriver.

Hope this clears things up for you

You are also not limited on how many channels since the tuner used is in the DirecTV STB.
