NO SIGNAL error with HDhomerun and Sage

I recently moved to cincinnati and established new hd cable service and connected cable to my 2 SD tuners and to my hdhomerun. i set up the hdhomerun and I am able to view the channels with the vlc viewer and confirm the guide names withe the zapto it website. when i go to the sagetv source setup the hdhomerun tuners are there. I set them up with digital cable cincinnati, and after a channel scan it recognizes the channels but when i try to view them in the program guide, it tells me no signal.
I recently upgraded to 6.4.5 beta and read that there were some issues so i revereted to 6.4.4 still with no luck. I'm frustrated as hell right now coz i'm out of options and almost thinking about going to OTA with the hdhomerun. any help would be much appreciated. the sd channels from my pvr150 and hvr1600 come in just fine.

I struggled with this for a while, and ran 6.4.3 for the longest time to keep my HDHR working, until my power supply died. Anyways, I upgraded today to 6.4.5 and followed the guide online, and mine is now working 100%. It was doing exactly what you are saying, with the "no signal" after the channel scan. I downloaded the latest betas from SiliconDust, and then I rebooted, deleted all the old scn files, and got it to work in Sage. The guide is the way to go.

I also added the QAM variable in my properties file, even though it says the DLL fixes it.

Did you do a channel scan on both of the HDHR tuners? I had the exact same issue. Turned out that I did a channel scan on one HDHR tuner, it recognized the channels, then I backed out of the source setup to see how things were going. When I tried to view a channel in the program guide, I got No Signal. Sage was trying to use the other HDHR tuner, which hadn't had a channel scan yet.

i tried that as well...it as now been 12 h rs straight that i've been working on this....time is running out..the mrs will be arriving tomorrow and sagetv messing around time will be limited then...a fully functional system is what will be expected...i've uninstalled hdhomerun, and i'm now trying doing cable tv/cable tv instead of the recommended antenna/broadcast and then cable tv...at wit's end...

SUCCESS AT LAST!!! I REINSTALLED HDHOMERUN BETA, deleted any prev frq/scn files in sage tv dir, then removed all hdhomerun sources, reboot. then configured hdhomerun and changed channel numbers to match zap2it website. then confirmed that scn files created in sagetv directory. next applied changes, quit hdhomerun setup and opened sage. setup hdhomerun sources as digital tuner/CABLE TV/ TUNE CABLE/SATELLITE (THIS IS CONTRARY TO THE RECCS THAT SAY TUNE AS ANTENNA/BROADCAST AND THEN TUNE AS CABLE/SATELLITE)
then chose my local digital cable station, said do not scan channels. then disabled all channels and then scanned. it was a quick scan (20s). then completed that source and did the second source as well. next went to program guide and after a little while the epg updated and viola, gone was the dreaded "NO SIGNAL" that has plagued me for the past 12 hrs....rest at last i hope.....

I'm curious: where did you see any comment to tune as antenna, then tune as cable, and in what program? I'm not sure what you mean there.

You should be choosing antenna in the HDHR software & in SageTV for over the air broadcasts, or choose cable in both programs for QAM. If there are comments somewhere in the new instructions that made it look like something else should be done, it would help to know where that is.

(The OLD instructions for QAM said to choose antenna in SageTV, but those instructions are obsolete with the new software & the my instructions in another thread say to try those old HDHR instructions ony if you are using an older version of the HDHR software.)

this is from the silicon dust website...for digital cable tuning with sagetv
| * Choose the first "Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner" option.
* Choose "Digital TV Tuner".
* No need to wait for the preview. Choose "Digital TV Tuner" again.
* Choose "Use Tuner on Capture Card to tune Antenna/Broadcast".
* Choose "Use US, Canada, or XMLTV Guide Data with this Source".
* Choose "Cable or Satellite"
* Choose your Cable provider (Digital version, Extended service).
* Choose "Yes - scan for channels now".

the antenna/broadcast is what i changed to cable in my setup..

But now i have runinto another problem...i can tune/record one HD station but when i want to try and view another at the same time with the other tuner on the hdhomerun (presumably) it gives me a no signal error..and there are only 2 lights on the tuner (right panel of lights) as opposed to the 3 i would expect when both tuners are recording...could it be that one of my tuners is now defective or is there a setting i am missing?? now going on 14hrs...

Why are you following those instructions? The ones for you to use were posted by jrog, above, at this link. Those instructions specifically said not to use the ones you posted above unless you were still using very old HDHR software. I've added a bolded statement to my instructions to try making that more clear.

Please start over and follow the instructions here.

And, you have to do a scan for both tuners in the HDHR software. (Or you have to know how to manually copy & rename the files to use the same scan results for multiple HDHR tuners.)

I am such an idiot...i have spent so much time reading posts all day that that one piece of information eluded me...despite the obvious bold face...i'm scanning the second tuner as we speak and hopefully it will show up as a valid tuner in sage this time.

I only added the extra bolded text right before I posted above so that it would be more noticable in the future.

I know very little about networking other than that wires come in many colors now... well, except for the wireless wires: they only come in 'clear'. I'll leave networking for someone else.

Anyway... clients do their own decoding. The only times the server has to do any sort of decoding for a client is when it needs to transcode for Placeshifter or for some format that an extender can't play natively.

ridiculous

After finally going to bed this morning i had a working system, 2 tuners, both working in sage and recording. I try now after the computer has been on standby to watch hd channel, "no signal" error again. The hdhomerun manager shows 96-100% signal all green on both tuners and the lights are on for both tuners on the device. what do i do now? reinstall sources again? del prev created frq files while leaving the scn files? will i have to do that everytime the computer is turned off or standby? any suggestions would be helpful..

SiliconDust released yet another Beta update this morning.
I reran the beta setup again this afternoon and the HDHR is still working using the install instructions.

If after doing a reboot you're still having problems, let us know.

As mentioned here & in the few previous posts: if you can tune the channel just fine in the HDHR software but SageTV isn't tuning the same channels, then please get the debug & native logs. The native log may be the most important one for you to provide. Be sure to use the most recent HDHR software for this.

I think the channels tuned OK in those posts if the guide number was left as-is in the HDHR Channel Editor, but not when the number was changed. It is supposed to work either way, so the logs will help SageTV track down what is happening.
