I'm very new to SageTV. If you're reading this and following it, you're like the blind being led by the blind YMMV ! My system: + Core2 Quad + 3 GB Memory + Hauppauge 2250 + Comcast cable + Vista Home Premium SP1 with latest patches + ZoneAlarm 7.x (latest rev 7 for Vista) + Vista UAC are enabled + I run everything using 1 PC (no server/client) Prelude ===== (Probably could be done before or after Prelude II. I put it here because I was running VMC for a few months before switching to SageTV) - Install 2250 board, cable - Install Hauppauge driver (just the latest released version). Prelude II ======= - Disabled VMC services: Windows Media Center Receiver Server, Stop and set to Disabled Windows Media Center Scheduler Service, Stop and set to Disabled Windows Media Center Service Launcher Service, set to Disabled - Terminated process ehtray.exe - Downloaded and installed program Autoruns from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb963902.aspx - Using Autoruns, disable ehtray.exe from starting when Windows starts. - For file: C:\Windows\ehome\ehtray.exe + Take Ownership of the file + Rename file to ehtray.dave62-program (just a different name) - Reboot Windows - Confirm those Windows services didn't start and ehtray isn't running. Act I ==== - Installed latest SageTV to c:\myapps Vista will want to do this with Adminstrator priviledges. +If you plan on installing to c:\program files\sagetv, I strongly recommend you look at the other posts discussing UAC and the VirtualStore. It's a mess! +Set SageTV to not start when Windows starts. - replace files DShowCapture and TSSplitter. Change setting for seeker/fast_mux_switch. See here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36360 - Change file permissions to c:\myapps and all files and subfolders to allow the current user full access to edit/change the files. I had to do this because I don't normally run with Admin privileges and the installer wants to run with Admin priviledges. This step was very important for me! - Run SageTV and go through the configuration screens. I use the SageTV service. - Setup the sources. I did both analog tuners followed by both digital tuners. When setting the source, I quickly accepted the choice and didn't wait for small onscreen display to tune the channel. - For the digital tuners, it'll want to scan the channels. This takes a while. I did this for one digital tuner. I then told the second digital tuner to use the lineup from the first digital tuner. That caused some problems so I deleted the second digital tuner, added it back in then told that one to scan the chanels. That messed up the first digital tuner. SageTV tech support told me to: "Try taking your 'Hauppauge WinTV-7164 Analog Capture-1-QAM.frq' file and copying it and replacing the corresponding -0 file. That may fix it. (backup the -0.frq file first before you replace it)" That seemed to work to work for me. Act II ==== Installed SageMC. Very nice. Installed SageTVTray. Also very nice. Act III ===== Installed Netflix support. Last edited by Dave62; 11-03-2008 at 12:05 PM. Reason: Little fix, plus NetFlix now working ! |

I was having timeline problems on the analog TV Tuner on my HVR-2220 with the recordings playing back at normal speed, but the timeline advancing at double speed.
A 1 hour recording would play normally, but only take half an hour for SageTV to get to the end of the 1 hour timeline and end the show. This would happen on both PC and HD-100 playback. Comskip would process they files accurately, and the full 1 hour would play on other players. Updating to the latest HVR-2200 drivers Drivers Only WHQL XP+Vista(32/64) (HVR-22x0_7_3_0_26198_WHQL.zip) fixed the problem. John |

Can anyone tell me the difference between this and the HD homerun? Does the HD homerun not have the ability to record analog cable TV?

My 2 cents on the 2250 vs. HDHR
1. the 2250 only requires 1 coax cable for both tuners. the HDHR needs 2 2. the 2250 can record both digital and analog 3. The 2250 doesn't have to worry about network traffic issues. 4. I found the HDHR MUCH easier to setup the QAM channels and get it to work properly.

I had the same problem earlier that you had to delete the frq file on...
I also had to take the following steps to make it work: Quote:

OK, I've got mine up and running perfect!!!!!
Removed my 2 old analog only cards, installed this one, ran HCW clear. Then I added the analog tuners, and added my cable tuner. All working!! Then after adding 1 digital tuner, (messed things up, and had to restart) and got it working with the station remap, and just cloned it, and boom, 2 new QAM tuners working. Then I had to change the encoder_merit to tune my HDHomerun first, then the tuner NOT hooked to the cable box, then the one hooked to the cable box, and perfection!!!!!! Next I'll have to do dad's. Didn't have time to do the station remap/encoder_merit, so he just has 2 new analog tuners right now. I'll get him the digital tuners next time I'm home. BTW, forgot to say what software I was using. I used the current release from Hauppauge, and the new beta files for SageTV. Last edited by MattHelm; 11-03-2008 at 09:12 AM. Reason: Updated software used |

Are the HD recording type devices sensitive to the coax cabling? |

You menat a PCI-e, correct?
ALL HD capture is sensitive to signal strength. If you are going to have many tuners, you'll want to make sure you have a good starting signal, and most people are adding an amp. I re-did the cabling and added an amp in my dad's house, but it wasn't very good to start. |

Yes, I have wondered about incompatibilities though. Is it hard to the keep the 2250 running correctly? Sage still doesn't have it for sale in the store and does it even support it?

I've been using this card for OTA ATSC for two months now without a single hitch. SageTV does support it. QAM seems a little tricky if you've not done it before but OTA (ana & dig) are a breeze.

SageTvLauncher has some additional functionality:
-handles other launch buttons: i.e. Recorded TV launches Sage and navigates to Recorded TV - WOL support (wake up the server from a client) - kills ehtray.exe anytime it launches - interacts with the remote at a higher level, so more devices should work |

I just received and installed my new HVR-2250 and love it so far. Per previous posts, I setup the 2 analog tuners first and then setup the 2 digital tuners and it seems to be working so far. I'm able to record 2 HD stations just fine.
The one issue I noticed though is when watching Live SD analog channels. It works great when I tune to a SD channel for the first time. But when I change the channel, the newly changed to station does not appear. Has anyone else experienced this? Recordings work fine... it only has issues when changing channels while watching live TV. One additional improvement I would love Sage to have is to have real channel names appear after doing a channel scan (instead of names appearing like 27-2, etc). Time for me to sell my HDHomeRun!

I have install a HVR-2250 and I get the following
There was a Capture Error in playback. Details: ERROR (-4,0X8007001F): There was an problem using the capture device. Please be sure you have the latest drivers installed for your capture device, and that they are installed correctly. I have Vista 64 Ultimate, I installed the drivers from hauppauge web site. Edit 11-07-08 3:02 am I was using SageTV_V6_4_8 beta, I installed the SageTV_V6_4_8 final version and I don't get that error any more. Edit 11-11-08 5:55 am my error came back on 11-08-08 and when I rebooted my Seagate 500gb shorted out, sent the drive back under warranty. All my backups lost Thanks Scat See image [IMG][/IMG] Last edited by scat; 11-11-2008 at 04:56 AM. Reason: Solved error |

I've got a mess right now - just bought a 2250 to replace a dead PVR-150.
Installed it, and WinTV can view tv just fine. I installed the drivers that came on the CD with the 2250. I got the sources installed in SageTV (I'm running version 6_3_5 at the moment). THat gave me "software compression" errors when trying to use the channels, so I found this thread. I've updated the .dll and .ax file, ran the .reg file. Now I can bring up Sage, go to LiveTV, and it shows one of my HDHomeRun channels (62-1). When I hit Down on the channel arrow, it goes to 62 - analog channel on the new 2250. It displays it fine for a few seconds, then SageTV crashes to desktop. What's my best course of action next? Upgrade to the 6_4_8 version of SageTV? Upgrade to the beta 2250 drivers listed earlier in this thread? Both? Thanks!

Did you run HCW clear?
Yes, I'd update to the latest in everything (That's what I have). You'll need to re-install the beta drivers. Back up you win.biz file!!!!!! |
