Media Playback and Updating Firmware

Howdy all,

I'm having a difficulty, and I think I've mostly figured out the problem. I have a fairly large collection of media from a variety of different file formats. I'm pretty sure Sage should be able to play them all, but some cannot be.

Thus, I set out to update my firmware which has never been done. My unit was purchase in Feb of 2008. I've read the post in the FAQ section and I cannot get it to work. I just can't get the Extender to boot into the server menu no matter what I do. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,

Target

This is the firmware FAQ that should be read. Step 1 of the first Q gets you to the server menu on the HD100.

You do have the HD100 instead of the MVP, right?

I have the HD100. The new one. I followed the following directions.

Quote:
Go to the Servers menu on the STX-HD100.

* If the STX-HD100 is off, turn it on. It will should start at the Servers menu.
* If the STX-HD100 is turned on and connected to a SageTV server, press the Power button on the STX-HD100's remote to put it into standby mode, then press the Home button to start at the Servers menu. (Or press the Standby button and then the Menu button on the front of the extender.)
* If the STX-HD100 is turned on, but is powered down to standby mode, press the Home button on the STX-HD100's remote to start at the Servers menu. (Or press the Menu button on the front of the extender.)
When I start my HD100 it goes straight to the Sage interface. I power it down, and then press home or menu on both the remote and the box itself, and it still just boots into the Sage interface. What exactly is meant by standby? My experience is that either the screen saver for Sage is on, or the box is off. Perhaps I'm just not getting it into standby mode properly.

Right below the text you quoted, there is a note:
Quote:
Note: If the Auto Connect to Server option has been enabled in the HD100's Settings menu, then you will have 5 seconds to press Enter or Select to cancel the auto-connect process when the unit first loads the Servers menu.
It sounds like Auto Connect is enabled... are you not seeing the time-limited option to cancel the auto-connection?

And: does it go through the entire boot-up process of loading the font, getting an IP address, finding servers, and so on, or does it skip all that?

Correct. I remember looking for that forever. I also looked for some way to disable the autoconnect feature, but to no avail. It boots up pretty slow. I'm not home right now and last tried last week, so I'll have to get back to you. All told it takes about 8 seconds to come on.

Go into the setup menu and uncheck it.

I've looked through the setup menu, and was unable ton find it. Does anyone have a more detailed description as to where it might be?

You need to get to the settings menu on the HD100. One of the choices is Autoconnect to the server. Uncheck it. You need to hit the Enter key on your remote with 5 seconds when the dialog box comes up to get to the settings menu.

You should be able to get to the servers menu on the HD100 by cancelling the auto-connect during the 5 second window mentioned above. *If the TV is in the middle of changing resolutions during this time & you don't see the cancel option, try hitting Enter on the remote once or twice during that blank screen time.

The manul that was in your HD100 box (or downloadable as a PDF file) has a way to reset the configuration -- around p. 8.

I've been out of town and will be home this weekend. I'll try to get this working, and post back here with my results. Thanks for all the help to date.

Alright. I got the firmware installed. Interestingly enough, the power went out early on Saturday, and on the next boot I was in the services menu and able to update.

I have a completely unrelated question if anyone is willing to answer.

Can the Extender output to both the component and the HDMI outputs at the same time?

There's this FAQ to check out:

Can multiple outputs be used on the STX-HD100 at the same time?.

If anyone else has a different experience than what the FAQ says, let me know.

Thanks a ton. I should probably know this, but is HDMI 'in use' when its plugged in, or just when the TV is on?
