No luck here. My server with an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ stutters and drops out while trying to transcode. I am planning or replacing the MVPs with STX-HD100s as the budget permits.

It would be nice if the Sage geniuses could somehow optimize Sage transcoder for H264 encoded files but I dont know if that is even possible.

If I had to guess, they would have to multi thread the transcoder and probably optimize it on top of that. I can see why it is so processor intensive, it takes a Core2duo @ approx 2.2ghz just to go from an HD MPEG2 stream to a SD MPEG2 stream (just changing the resolution). I can see why we are having problems taking an HD H.264 stream and making it into an SD MPEG2 stream on the fly.

Give up on SD TV???

I did just the opposite...

I recently picked up 3 MVPs on eBay and tried to use my (old, old, OLD) computer as a sage server and got terrible stutter, hard drive was practically full anyway. Then I tried a 1.6GHz dual core laptop but still didn't like the playback, not even on the server.

Since I had to get a new computer anyway... I'm now very happy with SageTV on the new server. I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to replace that old clunker!

Yeah, buttttt you aren't using an HD-PVR are you? MediaMVP's are great for any Mpeg2 stream....unfortunatetly for H.264 there currently isn't anything powerful enough to transcode on the fly.
