Sage unable to wake computer
Ideally I would like any of the extenders to wake the server from standby with network activity, but my NIC does not allow that. But I am able to wake the computer with WOL using only a "magic packet"
My workaround to at least have the computer in standby over night (to save on power bill), is to use Task Scheduler. I put it to standby at 12:01am and [try] to wake at 6:55am. I can put to sleep fine, but it will not wake using the Task Scheduler. (I also used WSOB, but no luck.) So then I checked if the computer would wake when Sage had a scheduled recording coming up, but it would NOT. Turns out the only way to wake the server is to hit the power button, or send a magic packet--both of these being manual, not a good option. Anyone know why my server would not wake by SageTV for a recording, or even some of the wake programs out there? |

I find it strange that sage does not wake your system if you can use the task scheduler to do it. Sage only tells the system what time to wake up, the OS does the actual scheduling.
The HD extender does not currently use the magic packet to wake the system. I probably will ask that it be added as enchancement at some point. It is not currently a priority for me. The program that I use to send a magic packet is http://magicpacket.free.fr/ I can use my notebook to wake my server if I need too.

Thanks. Actually task scheduler is NOT able to wake the computer either. I am only able to wake by magic packet or push of power button.

I think i figured this out. The command line script i was using to put the PC to sleep apparently disables 'wake event'. So I switched to using PsShutdown, and that seems to work so far. I also think the NIC responds to any network traffic, but will have to test more.
[update] -- maybe this did not fix it. left on S3 overnight, the computer did not wake at 7am as i set up by 'Wake on Standy' program. short off and wake seems to work, but not longer term. will have to test more. Last edited by sabre; 07-16-2008 at 11:32 AM. |
