HD100 Placeshifter Mode: Slow Motion and no sound
I put my Extender in Placeshifter mode to connect to a sage server and it connected fine. I was able to navigate the menus quite nicely. However, when I tried to watch any video it would play in slow motion and there was no sound.
I gotta beleive his server is not transcoding the stream to something that his outbound DSL connection can support, correct? I installed placeshifter on my laptop and it works just fine. How can I correct this problem? Last edited by nebulink; 07-10-2008 at 09:17 AM. Reason: changed title to provide better meaning to problem |

If the server can't handle it, most likely the trouble isn't only the DSL connection.
Check and see who is doing the decoding on the placeshifter client. You can specify transcoding parameters, CIF resolution and 200k should work. If you use the autocompress plugin you can instruct it not to transcode but stream the source file. If your source file is preconverted to MPEG4 then you are pretty good to go. With hardware decoding this works pretty dang well even over modest upload. Streaming an MPEG2 source isn't going to work. If the laptop was local using wifi the server CPU could be the cause, definately set it up again and watch the server CPU either way. |

It definetly is not the server. I am connecting to a remote server. I tried with the placeshifter client on my laptop and it works fine but with the extender does not playback recorded tv or other videos. It appears to be playing in slow motion without audio.

Make sure you have all the correct ports opened for Placeshifter. If you're connecting to a remote server you may not have all the ports opened.

I assume the ports must be open since I can connect with my laptop.
I assume the server is trying to send more data than what the outbound dsl connection can handle. I do not see the same bandwidth controls on the extender as I do in the placeshifter client. |

Do you have customized settings on your placeshifter laptop?
I would assume the defaults would be what the extender is using. This is IMHO a super cool feature. |

All I had to do on my laptop was install Placeshifter and enter the location ID and everything worked perfectly. Now with the hd100 the video plays back in slow motion without sound but I can navigate the menu's just fine.

Make sure support knows, I am suprised the extender doesn't have any configurable options.
It may also have configurable options in a clients.properties??? |

If you are connecting at rates higher than 2MB (upload from the server and download from the HD100) you will see these problems as the sage server will not try to transcode on faster internet connections (it doesn't think it needs to).
