Batch file to help with HD-PVR disappearing after reboot

I have a problem with the HD-PVR. Sometimes (very infrequently) it won't start correctly after I reboot my machine. It's a USB device and I've tried modifying every setting I could think of. However, no matter what I tried, the device just wouldn't start correctly sometimes. I don't know if this is just a general problem with USB devices on XP, or what (my other tuners are PCI devices and the HDHomeRun (Ethernet). Anyway, now that I'm dependent on the HD-PVR it's really bad if the tuner just disappears after a reboot (I miss shows). So, I created this script that will look for the HD-PVR and make sure it's running. If it isn't then the script will restart the device. Now the problem didn't happen often, but ever since I've set this script to run after a reboot, I've not had a problem with the device not being there for Sage (I know, this isn't really proof that it's doing anything since I'm not logging it's success, but I really believe it is helping). So, just in case others are having the same problem my batch file is attached. This does require you to download the devcon application from Microsoft (below is the link).

I simply unpackaged it into the \windows\system32 folder, but you can modify the batch file for whatever location you would like.

I hope this helps someone else...

Hi,

I have this problem on my server as well. I have a ups for the server, so I do not get many re-boots. I have, nevertheless, taken to checking daily that the HD-PVR and my ATSC usb tuners are up and running. I am on vacation now and I have been wondering what I will find when I get home...

Thanks for posting this. I will get it set up when i get home.

Jesse

Same thing has happened to me - just once though. We lost power briefly in a storm and after everything was back up Sage couldn't see any of the HD-PVR channels. Rebooting fixed it.
