WIS Technologies chip support?
I have been thinking about picking up Sage in the near future... at first I was planning on a WinTV PVR250/350 card (since they seem to be the recommended ones), but I also noticed a new USB TV capture unit that looks pretty nice.
Although the pages are in Japanese, you can see the Novac "micro CATCH TV Walker" specs here . This unit uses the following chips: Hardware MPEG 1/2/4 Encoder: WIS Technologies GO8007SBGO7007SB Video Encoder: Philips Semiconductors SAA7135 Tuner: Philips Semiconductors TDA8275 (Silicon Tuner) + TDA8290 ("Digital IF") I am interested in this unit because it offers MPEG 4 hardware encoding, and costs about the same as the WinTV PVR250... is it (or will it be) supported? Any comments are appreciated... Thanks. |

I found a few other links for further info on the WIS chip:

I'm sorry, but I don't really understand what you mean SHS... that the audio capability of the unit is pretty limited?
It actually sounds like a very nice device - the WIS chip seems to be pretty open, with documentation readily available, and drivers (or at least SDKs) for both Windows and Linux are available. As for the Phillips decoder, it also sounds very nice based on Phillips PR : "Designed for high-end applications, one of the new decoders (the SAA7135) is the world's first single-chip PCI video/stereo decoder to support stereo audio enhanced with Dolby Pro Logic® decoding. The SAA7135 reduces the chip count of Dolby-enhanced PC TV cards from three chips to one, enabling cinematic surround sound capabilities for even cost sensitive PC TV applications." The specs for the Novac unit also mention that it supports stereo audio and SAP(?) - switching to other language audio on a broadcast, for example. |

Yes audio capability on this chip is BIG TIME limited.
The only good thing I see is Motion-adaptive de-interlacing and Cropping. But I have felling this not what it should be why dose it need auxilary tool to make DVD in to recognizable format that first Clue. Well I don't see and Download link to SDK so there for it not open designed my guest is you have sign NDA in order get the SDK. It sound like PR BS if ask me. But that againe dosen't any one ever ture read any thing little thing like this (Audio data fingerprint is embedded in video stream for perfect S/W synchronization) just so you S/W mean SoftWare mean it dose SoftMux |
