2.0.11. is a joy
After installing beta 2.0.10 and then 2.0.11 on my HTPC, I noticed that odd shows were appearing in my favorites. Get this: it turns out that my WIFE taught my son's NANNY how to use Sage, and she's been recording her favorite daytime shows with it. Since then, she's told her husband, "we have got to get one of those things".
Good going guys! |

Just wait until the loss of keyboard/remote and see how much of a joy this version is. It's more of a pain each day.

I've been running 2.11 since the day it came out and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Everyone has to remember this is a beta.

Deadbolt, look for the 5 threads on it not far down from here. The lasst build was much more stable. This build had serious issues (acknowledged by Dan in the most recent thread regarding this. He said the new beta fixes it). FOr instance, last night I was watching recorded shows and lost keyboard/remote about 5 times. It seems to go into a loop and will eventually return. The last time I left it and it was back this morning. I like the new features in .11 but a joy its not.

Beta 2.0.11 is unusable for me And Loss of keyboard/remote control Dan posted a note to that 2nd thread & replied to my bug report saying that the problem has been resolved for the next version. Now, we are just waiting to test that whenever the next version comes out. I've got to say that I've been nothing but happy with .11. Just because you have problems with this beta doesn't mean it can't be a joy for those of us who don't. 2.0 has by far been the coolest thing I've put on my HTPC, except maybe for 1.4 when I started using that.
I doubt Deabolt was saying the problem didn't exist, probably just trying to keep this thread on a lighter note. It's always nice to see it's not all doom an gloom. |

Just because I don't read the posts doesn't meant that is the reason I don't have problems....this is not the "roadrunner" where you don't have a problem unless you look down.
I have never seen this bug. Again, it must be differences in our setups. It is not inclusive of all users...such as me. 2.0.11 is a joy for me. Deadbolt |

.11 is a joy until I lose the remote. This morning it locked up so bad I had to kill it. Second time in 6 days. Once it started again, it is a joy again.

Deadbolt: before you read this, realize that my point isn't to get into an argument. I'm simply trying to give a reminder that a problem that you do not have may very well be a real issue for someone else...
Well, of _course_ this is a beta. Parts of the program work quite well and parts need improvement. It all works for some people, and some of it doesn't work for others. That's the whole point of testing -- find out what isn't working, or even what isn't working consistently. I was responding to a comment that _seemed_ to suggest that a problem that someone reported wasn't a real concern since it "must be you", indicating that if he hadn't had that particular problem, it must be the fault of the person who _did_ have the problem. It is the same thing with the issue of using multiple 250s (mixing 15 & 16 versions) or using a 250 with a 350. Some people report no problem; others can't get it to work. (Yes, I know this is with v1.4 too & is probably a driver/motherboard issue.) Saying: "it works for me, so it must be you" doesn't solve anything. I'm not complaining about running into problems, as I fully realized that possibility when I installed the beta versions. The problems I run into & report can make the product work that much better (especially on my system) when it is complete. So, is b2v11 an improvement? My answer: Yes. Except for the keyboard/remote lockouts, it is a step up from b2v10, which of course looks a lot better than v1.4. The fact that categorization of recordings is back in is simply great & has outweighed my lockout problems in my decision to stick with 11 instead of reverting to 10, for example. I think they are doing a great job of improving the product, but I can't wait for the next version to make it even better. Wasn't that the thing that kept being said about v1.4: Hey! This is great! When can we see verison 2!? To put this back onto the point of the original poster: my favorite improvement between beta versions is the return of categorization. What's _your_ favorite beta improvement, either from 1.4 to 2, or from beta 10 to 11? - Andy |

I have been using the Beta's heavily since they were released. I dont mean your normal usage. I have really dove into it. I really like 2.0. What I meant is that .11 is only a joy until it goes into the control loop. I have removed it, reinstalled it numerous time and tried may things just to see if I could resolve this myself. Unfortunately I cant. .10 was great for me except it lacked the new features of .11. Even though .11 is kind of frustrating, it's still what I am using. I have not reverted to 1.4.1 or even beta .10. Why? Because I signed up to beta test and thats what I intend to do. No matter how many issues I have, I will still keep using whatever the current beta is. I did not intend to start an argument here. Just killing time until the next beta release........

Please do not try to assume by use as "normal." I have a 350 and 250 in the server, and a networked 250. Have it recording 24/7 and exhaustivly use the gui while watching tv about 8-10 hours per day. I have also created many work arounds using Girder macros.
All I meant by "it must be you" is that it must be something about your setup...it is not a systemic bug hitting everyone. I am an example of someone who has not been hit by this bug. Deadbolt |

By the same token, since Dan has recognized this as being a bug in .11 and he has fixed it for .12, this can't be setup specific. And hopefully whatever he has fixed doesn't break anything for those who have no issues.
And now back on track: My favorite improvement is being able in the Live Guide to press once for the channel and press again for full screen, bypassing the options screen like back in .10. I'm really enjoying this version. I actually loaded .10, did alot of testing and then put 1.4.10 back on. Couldn't use it on the production box. Now this version is sweet and is running on my production box and running the client full time. Yeah it's pain when I lose remote/keyboard but a quick restart and I'm back in business. Love the UI too. Gerry

"I dont mean your normal usage." was not meant to mean YOU Deadbolt. It's a way of pharseing that I guess I should not have used. I did not think this was going to turn into some kind of insane touchy thing. You are taking things wrong.
