My MVP is unreliable, anything I can do?
I've been running a Hauppage MVP in another room for some time and I'd thought I'd finally try to sort out some issues I have with it.
I don't really know where to go for support but I thought I'd ask for some help here and it would be appreciated if I get some pointers in the right direction. The issues are have might have different triggers but they always seem to end up with my MVP rebooting. Things like scrolling down the channel list or fast forwarding a video I might be watching I have to do nervously as quite often the thing reboots itself. THe MVP is one of the more recent generation and is hard wired to the same router / switch as the sage server. I have a Sage HD100 extender in my main room and that performs flawlessly. At the server side I am currently running Vista 32 and Sage 6.4.4 although I have tried a number of combinations over recent months. Thanks in advance for any help. |

The most obvious suggestion is are you using SP1? Your problems sound like the known pre SP1 Vista issues with the MVP.

I'm running VISTA 32 and latest SageTV on the HTPC, and have an MVP connected to my TV.
What you describe does look to me the typical none-SP1 VISTA problem. I had it all the time (was ready to revert back to XP), constant reboots if hitting that remote to quickly. Once something started playing, it was ok - but no FFW please, but before getting there .. Also scrolling was a nightmare, often resulting in an MVP reboot. All this was apparantly caused by the revised VISTA TCP/IP process. I did install SP1RC and all my problems disappeared. I did recently re-install my HTPC (the RC was only valid until end of July I believe). Installed VISTA and than SP1, and again all is working smoothly. Not knowing more, my money would be that your SP1 did not properly install. Although, don't ask me to explain why your HD extender works fine - I don't have one (yet). Jan
