Update:

Here is the reply I got from sage support:

Quote:
This issue might be fixed in the current beta for Sage and the beta firmware for the extender.

The current beta for Sage can be found here.
http://www.sagetv.com/betadownload.html

To upgrade to the current beta. Go back to that screen where you update the firmware and can see the firmware version. Now type in the word beta on your remote. It should be 2-3-8-2. Now it should say beta firmware at the top, if so check for updates.

If that doesn't work then repeat the test and get me those two log files again.
I will not be running a Beta on my system, did that once before and the wife nearly killed me. I guess I will wait for the new firmware and software and hope that this has been corrected.

At least they know this is a problem

FWIW:

Pink Floyd Pulse DVD - I could not get the menus to work for this DVD when ripped. So, I ended up just ripping the main movie on each disc. (Fortunately I did this before forgetting to take them out of a DVD player that I sold at a garage sale! )

DVD Lock Ups - It had been a long time since I had watched a ripped DVD, and then last week I ripped a couple and had all sorts of lock up problems. Lock ups occurred when I ripped the full disc as well as when I ripped the main movie. So, I bit the bullet and loaded the latest beta software and HD100 firmware and no more lock ups. I suggest taking the chance (be sure to copy your current Sage install, first, though in case you need to back out the beta). Also, do it late at night after the loved ones are sleeping. Also, NOTE that if you have an HD Homerun, you may/will need to rescan and set some things up (there's a thread that describes the officially supported steps).

The new beta firmware/software is not a solution. Been running it since it released and the FF/REW situation is still a mess.

Thanks for chiming in and saving me some grief.

I told Sage support I was not the only person having difficulties, I will let them know you have tried the Beta if you dont mind and that this is not the fix.

I will keep you all posted as to my progress.

Thanks

Does anyone have any updates on this issue? I'm having lots of problems trying to fast-forward in DVD rips too. It seems like if I try to fast-forward more than a few seconds it'll freeze up pretty much every time.

I haven't tried the new release client yet. There still seems to be some pretty serious bugs in this version. I'll probably wait until the final release comes out. Sage is starting to get a little bulky and it seems like they're having a harder time coming out with stable releases.

I've generally had good luck with the last beta from around 7/19 (as per my earlier post).
That said, it will freeze up sometimes, but I found that if I rewind a second or two then hit play things are fine (although I might have to do this a couple of times).

Has the lockup problem been fixed with the latest SageTV rel?

I just tried watching my first DVD rip and all was smooth until about 70 minutes into the movie when the video froze. I checked the server and it was running at 60%+ cpu util on a core2 2.4GHZ system with about 250MB of process memory used (not virtual mem). i stopped and restarted the server and restarted the movie from the beginnig OK but never continued watching it since it was too late. I am still running the older software (afraid of upgrading due to Wife fallout) unless i have a really good reason.

Same Issue

I am having the same issue. The extender is crashing at various times on multiple DVDFab rips. These rips played fine before the latest firmware update.

I am having same problem. I was using dvddecrypter, all those movies seem to have issues.

I used dvdfab on the last movie and it seemed ok but one movie isn't a good test.

should I submit my own bug report, I updated software and extender saturday but to last prod version not beta.
