A Little new to sage

Hi all,

i am new to sagetv but giving it a good shot. i have spent a few days trying to get sagetv setup. but i am a little confused at this point. i have a nova HD DVB-S2 card and a DVB-T card too. they both scan fine. but on the freesat side it get 600 channels and i cant for the life of me work out which ones to pick the next one is on the DVB-T card once i do a scan and then reorder the channel numbers. and then do another scan they all change again and the final problem. i have digiguide setup for freesat or freeview but not both at the same time. DGXML which exports fine. and then i am using sagetv XML TV Importer to import but i am unsure on how to setup the channel mapping for both sources. i have had it working sort of. but it does import the data just fine.

hope all of this make sense. and sagetv is a great bit of software and the forums are so helpful

Thanks

Paul

Try King of Sat for info on which channels are free to air, then take your pick of those. Just pick what you want via the channel setup or modify your .frq file. Their is loads of info on these forums about setting up xmltv and guides.

You really need to keep a backup of your first scan on the DVB-T card and then create your own channel lineup editing both scans to create one master .frq.

Heres a link to a small guide I wrote which may or may not be helpfull to you.
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...t=29627&page=3

I've also attached two sample frq files for you to take a look at.

Hi jaminben,

thanks for you help

i have it sort of working now, so i have freesat bbc1 on channel 101 and bbc1 on freeview as channel 1 but i can see how you map them together? i would just like them listed once in the guide.

its good fun but a steep learning curve.

do you think it would be worth while to have a master list of all the standard freesat channels as they would be the same across the uk bar the regional channels.

Thank you very much

Paul

Could I ask what drivers you are using for the nova. I can't even get a sucesful scan with mine.

Thanks Pukka, I am using Sage v6.4.3 at the moment, or trying to at least with the same Nova drivers. Maybe I'll go back to v6.3.10, and give it a go.

I did have powercinema installed, but have since removed it. I have PowerDVD v8 installed currently.

I'm not sure how to do this or if it is even possible. I have no need for this as I use four DVB-T tuners for freeview and two DVB-S tuners for freesat and dont mix the same channels from diffrent cards. You can see this from the sample .frq files I posted above.

Might be worth doing but people may want diffrent channels in diffrent orders in which case you'd be just as well to do a fresh scan.

I use WinTV CD 4.1 drivers for my Nova HD card and Sage 6.4.3.

I'm using the same version driver, and tried to scan today using 6.4.3. It would start to scan, and then stopped straight away.

I did my last scan with 6.3.10 so something must be up with the latest beta.

Sage created a couple of .lnb files, one for each tuner, something I haven't seen before.

i think the penny has just dropped on how it does it channel line up

i have both 101 and bbc 1 called the same now. the user guide says that sagetv will work the rest out is they anyone who can confirm this.

6.4.3 i had the same thing it would start the scan and then just stop. downgraded to 6.3.10 and all has been well since.

Thanks

Paul

If you use Stephane's importer you have to get the ID's the same, then sage will only show only channel in the guide. It's a bit fidly to set up but once done you rarely have to change it.

You can test by recording one channel, and then recording something else on the other tuner, and vice versa - I hope you get the drift of what I mean there.

I've found quite a few beta's in the past don't like doing scans.

More or less what was happening to me. Since going back to v6.3.10 it scans OK. Now the only slight issue I have is I no longer have the option to use the PowerDVD codec for video.

It should be instant.

Are you using Stephane's importer for both tuners?

If you use it for the Nova-HD-S2, and are using the free over the air epg for the Nova-T-500, then I can see you could have problems.

I use the radio times grabber to get my epg, then in Stephane's software I have 2 lineups, one for dvb-s, the other for dvb-t.

I then use the additional channels in Stephanes to set up what channels are on the second lineup.

I also disabled the over the air EPG for the nova-t-500 but I can't remember the setting to change in the properties file.

If you want OTA epg for one tuner and radio time/digiguide for the other tuner, I don't know how you'd tie them in to get just one listing in the guide.

To get them the same, I think you should have the first column the same.

An example of my BBC1's is as follows.

XMLTV ID - Name - Call Sign - Number - Lineup
UK_RT_92 - BBC1 - BBC1 - 1 - 1

And under the additional channels page

ID - Name - Call Sign - Number - Time - Lineup - Same as
UK_RT_92 - BBC1 - BBC1 - 12 - - 2 - UK_RT_92

The channel number of 1 is the channel number in the frq file for the Nova-T
The channel number of 12 is the channel number in the frq file for the Nova-S2-HD

I cant quite get the columns lined up in the message but I hope you get the idea.

Its been a few weeks since I made it but its about right I think.

I have 2 cards in my live sage box and I could really do with another to keep in my normal desktop so that I can keep checking without messing up my system.

I changed the file extension so that it would upload ok.

I don't know how well you'll be able to import a frq file, I've tried copying in a new one in the past without luck
