Finally using 2 Capture Cards/Preview Window

After too many hours with both Actisys and USB-UIRT hardware, multiple versions of Sage, and valued information as well as mis-information in the forums, I have finally succeeded in configuring 2 capture cards, 2 Dish STBs, a single custom remote, and a single USB-UIRT running in the Sage .11 beta.

It's going to take some time to exercise this but I am one happy camper so far. Both cards are changing channels and recording properly, Sage will move a scheduled recording from card to card as you manually record another show, favorites seem to intelligently use both cards, and you have the normal option to cancel either recording to watch live tv. I would, however, like to see both cards listed in the same conflict dialog box.

Playing a dvd while recording 2 programs shows about 10% CPU on a 2.8G P4. I am ready to build a much cheaper production box. The last key in this puzzle was the USB-UIRT. I dumped the 200L and I think I have gained complete control of the .ir files and am convinced that I can quickly setup multiple STBs from any manufacturer. Too early for a beer?

Before I post a bug, "be careful what you ask for", I'd like to get some feedback from other multi-card people about the preview window. I personally like it a lot but it needs to be labeled properly. In LiveTV Guide, Program Information, and elsewhere; the detailed information to the left of the preview window shows the detail for the highlighted program from the list below. Meanwhile, the preview is still running the last selected show. This is really confusing, especially when running multiple capture cards.

I would like to see a simple label containing just the show name and channel under/over/beside the preview window. If it gets distracting you can just pause it anyway. Another thought is to include the capture card name/num in here too. I know it may be too geeky, after all why should I care what card Sage is using, but it might be helpful because the scheduled recording form list heading is card name. I think I will be spending much more time in this form now with 2 cards.

Sorry for the long post. I am delirious. I’m ready to take this Sage thing to a higher level. YeeHaa!

In the face of triumph, it's never to early for a bear
