malore Menu's question
Hello everyone,
I recently enabled the Malore Menu's using the default STV. I am loving the recordings Menu options. I only have a few questions. Is there any way to use show Icons or Banners or something like that? Specifically on the top right corner where there is an image of the episode selected, is it possible to get the graphic of the show up there instead. Also would it be possible to have in the Left Pane a banner for each show instead of just the show's name, or a banner for a category like Movies? If this can be done I would love to know how! regards, brian |

You might be able to use your own image for a recording's thumbnail (I've never tried it), but there is no support for images in the other places you mentioned.

Andy -
Even from default menus, could that be done? Is the thumbnail that appears in the upper right, on the default STV "Recordings" menu, saved somewhere as a picture file? I assumed it was just a "still" taken from a few seconds into the recording and not saved separately, but I would love to be wrong - honestly, I have never looked! If it is saved separately, I would love to see a mod that would allow the thumbnail to be automatically replaced with the show graphic, based on the show title... if it required you to manually stock a folder with graphics that were named to match shows, that would be nice; if it automatically went and pulled them from the internet, that would be better! Seems like this would be very similar to the "Read and Write .my Files" customization....

Bob, that is a great find! thanks!
Now the true question is is there any way to have the recordings generated thumbnails be more generic in regards to naming so that we could build a archive of show images that could be in there (ie. scrubs, jpg, heros.jpg . . .)will be used instead of the screen capture that is currently being used. This would be a much nicer look imho. |

Not to confuse the issue, but SageMC does this already. It will download cover art automatically from IMDB.com for a show/movie, or you can insert your own. Just as you've suggested, you name the file by the series name (SesameStreet.jpg, Scrubs.jpg, etc)
PS And you can also use the Malore menus in SageMC (with a little extra work; they aren't there by default).

The reason I ask.... I have default SageTV and installed the "Read and Write .my Files" customization a while back. When I tried the "auto update" setting for TV shows, every show in the 3-day upcoming recordings list was overwritten with the "generic" plot description and info for the show (rather than the episode-specific info needed to recognize it as first run or re-run)... thus removing any "first run only" favorites from the upcoming recordings queue. This was a BAD thing (obviously). I turned that "auto" function off and had to manually set every show for the next three upcoming days to record (and even when the EPG updated, those episodes kept their "generic info" status). If there was a way to automatically read and write the thumbnail but NOT the rest of the IMDB show info, within default SageTV, that would be great.

You'll of course get better (and more informed) comments in the SageMC forum if you're interested in pursuing this. Matt

Honestly, (and I know its probably blasphemous) but I don't care for the SageMC interface. I would really be interested in this functionality in the Default STV.
Show graphics/logo/image displayed in menu's to accompany episode information seems like a rather basic request. I say request, not necessairily a basic implementation i would imagine it is an involved process to implement. Andy/devs and/or anyone who knows studio this would be a great feature and I (and others I hope) would realy appreciate it if it could be done. ~Brian |

That's fine...to each his own.
However, have you looked at the themes that are availble? It's not *just* the one interface that you see when you initially install SageMC.

Matt,
I have looked at the Themes, but for the most part they only change the color schemes and the main menu layouts. Which is pretty cool IMHO, but the rest of the screens (recordings, movies . . .) are the same as the base SageMC which is more where I dislike the look. I love the main menu changes that can be done but I rarely spend any time on my main menu's so that doesn't really make it worth my while to use SageMC. Just to throw this out there once more, is there anyone who may be able to bring the functionality I suggested above to the Default STV? If not I'll have to submit this as a feature request directly to the dev's and see what comes of it. Regards, Brian |

I don't plan to add show logos on the left pane because that menu already has speed issues and I don't care to add anything that slows it down more. - Andy

Andy, I would love it if it was supported by default, not just in Malore Menu's. I will be sure and submit it, knowing it won't be a high priority.
Thanks for your info! |
