an observation of some of the feedback
One thing I have noticed in the feedback of the beta are people who get upset with people who voice their opinion about a feature or lack thereof.
That's the idea of beta testing software. Find bugs, give suggestions, give feedback. Everyone who is guilty of ragging on those who give what you consider to be "negative" feedback need to can it. By doing nothing but defend the software or say "it's only a beta" does no one any good. It hurts Sage, it hurts the users, and ultimately hurts the product. Feedback is always needed. It doesn't matter if you find it "negative" or not. If that's the impression the person had then that's the impression the software gave them. That speaks volumes. So, to everyone, please stop getting upset with people who voice an opinion different from yours or people who voice and opinion you find "negative". |

Shut up - take your criticism somewhere else.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ;^) Seriously: the only times I have seen people get their backs up is when someone goes far beyond reporting bugs, or even complaining, but saying things like 'Sage is crap' or 'How do I use this "product"' |

you must not look very hard...i only skim these posts maybe once a day and half of what i read for feedback ends up with that person getting told "it's just a beta" or some other such nonsense
the hwole point of the beta is for feedback...any and all should be welcome no matter what |

-LD, a beta testers purpose is to test the current build. The limitations of that build are clearly defined in advance. Complaiing about those limitations does not help. Making suggestions has never been attacked to my knowledge.

Argh, this is beginning to drive me nuts.
There are polite and impolite ways to describe one's impressions of a product. Hackles will be raised when a complainant does not couch his comments in the society's accepted forms. I, for one, would rather that impolite people keep their bugs and their desires to themselves. To their credit, Frey Technologies seems to take a rather laissez faire attitude toward the discussion. Respect it, be polite, and try to avoid whining. For example, the subject line of "*cough* wheres Studio? *cough*" is impolite. It is a sad fact that impoliteness will beget impoliteness, as does violence beget violence. |

And don't forget that it is difficult to tell someone's attitude when reading their written comments online. It is easy to see irritation or insults where none are intended. So there!

Frankly, it seems a little strange that there has been so much more friction here after we have gotten access to the beta and have plenty to occupy ourselves with than before, when we were waiting and didn't really know when exactly we were going to get it. I'm sure there is some insight into human nature there but I have no idea what it is.

I think some of the friction/disappointment comes from some people seeming to expect this to be the answer to all their dreams... and then they found there were still some glitches and features that aren't implemented yet. If you build your dreams up too far, anything that doesn't match perfection is a great disappointment.
So, before the beta came out, there were raves about how great it would be & how all their desired features would be added. There was no room for complaint, as people could see what they wanted to see. In short, it now suffers from some unreal expectations. It is a great product, but _nothing_ is perfect. - Andy |

It may help if a "sticky" is put in this forum for "Suggested features or enhancements for Sage 2" This way the posts could be a little cleaner and there would be one spot to look at all the suggestions. The rest of the forum could be posts related to "I'm having this problem are you?" I would imagine it would then be easier to keep the general posts precise to problems we are having and the "features" post would be easier to go thru and gleam some good suggestions. Just a thought.

In response to a question in the sticky beta forum notice, Dan said that feature requests should be submitted as bugs so that they are not overlooked. I'm still having a hard time believing that. That would mean that both bugs and feature requests would go into a black hole. The only thing left of the forum would be bickering

I sometimes do both -- file a bug/feature request and mention it in the forums. The thing about the forums is that others can help refine the ideas.

I think I may start putting URLs to the forum in feature requests that I submit on the bugs page.

I think what may be helpfull is to have the current bugs stickied in this forum.

I agree about the sticky thing. Especially if people generally had one post each and just changed it when they wanted to update to keep the forum as concise as possible. If everyone kept their list prioritized then it would be pretty for someone to run through it and get a feel for what people are just dying for.

Another issue that's being overlooked in this thread, is that this is not the proper channel to report bugs. This is:
http://www.sage.tv/bugs.html The discussion forum is just what the name implies. Come here and discuss, or whatever, but slagging the software is not helpful. What is helpful, is to channel that frustration into a detailed explanaition of the problem and have Frey look at it, which they *always* do. And again, to get snippy about software that's only a beta release is borderline criminally insane. That's the whole point of putting out a beta release: find problems and predetermine attributes users don't like or desire. |
