HVR-1800 and 790FX Chipset = Broken

Here is the story:

When I built my new HTPC I bought a Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DS5 for a mobo and a HVR-1800 for a TV card. Long story short using the card to watch TV, or scanning for channels causes a hard lock every time.

Hauppage couldn't figure it out so they had me RMA it. After a incredibly long time I got a broken and battered one back... It took me weeks to get them to admit the screw up and RMA it again at their expense.

Well I finally got my new one back and the sh** hit the fan. The card does the same thing.... Well days of research later, and 3 tries of reinstalling the system later I finally called Hauppage screaming mad.

What the tech on the phone told me is "ya we know about the incompatibility with your mother board, we are working on it". Say what? Fine I say I want it replaced with a 1950 that does not have the issue, as I have waited nearly 2 months to get this working I figure I deserve it. Well they say I need to go through my supplier, but because of them taking so long on the RMA I cannot send it back to the supplier... Still working on getting them to replace it.

So moral of the story:
The HVR-1800 does not work with the 790FX chipset. If you have a mobo using this chipset steer clear of the 1800.

Edit:
Well I managed to get them to exchange the 1800 for a 1950. I will report how well that works when I get it.

Still having issues with mine.
Different mobo and chipset though...ATI Radeon Xpress 200 chipset in a Shuttle ST20G5 sff pc.
Just emailed the guy at Hauppauge support again to see if he has any more info. I'll ask him about the possibility of switching mine for a 1950 with me paying the difference, although at this rate I might be satisfied with a 1600 if it has the same dual tuner and QAM support.

*annoyed*

[EDIT] http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...php?p=13308645 - another motherboard incompatibility...?

Hauppauge just offered me a straight trade for a 1600, which I believe is pretty much the same card only PCI, which I am fine with.
Think I may just do that and see if that works in my PC.

Well I have my 1950 and am attempting to get it to work. Took me a while as I decided to add a TX-SR606 receiver to my setup

Anyways so far I am not having much luck. The good news is it does not hard lock the system. Bad news is it also does not work. I run the scan, and it detects channels but refuses to tune any analog channels and only plays the sound on the QAM channels. I'll keep playing with it and see if I can get it working.

I turned all my equipment on this morning and the 1950 works perfectly. Must have been something stuck in memory or something that only a cold reboot would clear.
