Will I lose recordings if I do this?

Before the last beta, I backed up my sagetv directory (everything) and copied it somewhere else. I'm seeing issues so I want to restore back to the previous version. Can I just copy that directory back and not lose any recording that where recorded in between the beta version and now?

Thanks

If you copy it back with the wiz.bin contained in your backup copy you'll initially lose the recordings that were recorded subsequent. There are settings to enable in the properties file to get Sage to recover the info for those files and have them show back up in recordings. You could also try leaving the newer wiz.bin in place but there is no guarantee the previous beta version would like that. The nice thing it should be realitively easy to try any of these options.

The Advanced Method (for SageTV version 6.3.9 and later)

(This method can also be used when moving imported media files, except for DVDs.)

When you start this advanced procedure you should be using a database for SageTV (wiz.bin) from BEFORE the paths of the files have changed.

Follow these steps:
If SageTV is running, exit it -- this means stopping the service if you are using service mode; if not using service mode, just exit the SageTV application.
Before you start SageTV with the files at their new paths; you MUST set the following property in the Sage.properties file:
advanced_video_file_recovery=true
Move the recorded file(s) to another recording directory or video import directory.
Then just start SageTV and it will automatically repair all of the recorded file path information in your database.
Check the SageTV Recordings menu to make sure the recordings are still listed and play properly.
Once you have verified that you can access the files at the new locations in SageTV; exit SageTV and then edit the Sage.properties file back to:
advanced_video_file_recovery=false
(This property should not be left as true once this process is complete.)
Restart SageTV.

The advanced method for moving a recording should work in most cases. If it doesn't, check the special considerations, below.
The entire FAQ is here:
How to move files, change recording dirs, etc.

If the recordings are not already in wiz.bin, then there is nothing to recover about them, so that property doesn't apply.

But, it depends on how long you've been using the newer version of SageTV before switching back to the older one. If the old version's EPG data already had the airings listed, then there is a good chance that it will recognize the airing IDs & thus the recordings.

If the recording's current airing ID is not in the database, then you could check the method of restoring based on airing ID mentioned at the end of this FAQ & rename the file to match the ID, if the database has the airing at all.

But if you have the folder/drive where the recordings are kept shared as a directory for "videos" (or if you make it such, even temporarily), and you refresh your imported media, you should find the shows that don't show up under "recordings" appearing as "videos".

At least that's what happened to me (and how I was able to watch some shows that weren't appearing in my "recordings" directory) when I messed up my wiz.bin a while back (my own fault).
