Well have the Denon AVR hooked up to EventGhost via serial port. Nice thing is the connection is bidirectional so I can take info from the Denon and display it via OSD. This is really nice since my Denon 3805 does not have HDMI support so I have my HTPC connected directly to the TV, this means I loose out on the OSD that the Denon would normally provide. The other nice thing is you can create events based on what the Denon is doing.

I currently have EG doing the OSD of the volume and mute, however I have to run SageTV in FSE to prevent tearing which means the OSD does not really work. Going to look and see if someone has a plugin for Sagetv that I can send a command to from EG and display the data in an OSD within SageTV. Thinking something like the Callerid plugin might work.

I would be interested in an EventGhost to Sage CID popup add-on, I only use extenders though so I can't use most of the EG on screen stuffs.

Tell your wife I'm sorry, you will find what you can control to be limited only by the amount of time you wish to put into configuring it.

The copy/paste thing in EventGhost makes most other home automation apps look dumb. working with Home Automated Living and their dit 1 device at a time methods.

The latest release of EventGhost includes built in support for multiple USB-UIRT's. Here's the post.

Wouldn't you need a YAC emulator then for EG?

Sorry for the slow responce, for us not so techies you can just use the Yac text sender from the command line.

I have been doing this for a while but I am not passing any variables, however I don't see why you couldn't.

I've recently started using EventGhost in order to get PowerDVD to respond to my MCE remote. I'm having trouble setting up the exclusive option so that the appropriate application responds when it's in focus. Can anyone help with that? I can't seem to find any documentation that helps.

Under your context folder you should make a folder called media, under that put folders for both SageTV and PowerDVD.

Add the SageTV plugin, add the enable exclusive plugin and add the tasks plugin to your configuration.

In your startup group add an event that enables exclusive the sagetv folder you just created.

in the context folder create a macros called enable SageTV and enable PowerDVD.

now manually switch between SageTV and PowerDVD, you should notice an event logged called Task.Activated.PowerDVD. Us this to enable the PowerDVD folder.

How are you launching PowerDVD?

I suppose through a Dynamic Menu item that launches the executable. Is there a better way?

No thats dandy and how I would do it.

So under context make a macro called launch PowerDVD with 2 actions, enable exclusive PowerDVD, and launch application powerdvd.exe (or whatever).

That will get power dvd going and disable input to SageTV.

Now you will need to get back to sage, I assume you will use a remote control button to do this. In it's action add the commands to enable SageTV exclusive and bring SageTV in focus and fullscreen.

(This method doesn't require the Tasks plugin mentioned above.)

So you should have:

/context
/context/Media
/context/Media/SageTV
/context/Media/PowerDVD

Keep in mind the enable exclusives is toggling folders on the same level of the tree.

Would it be better if my dynamic menu item called EventGhost instead of PowerDVD?

Call EventGhost.

\EventGhost.exe -e LaunchPowerDVD

This will create an event called Main.LaunchPowerDVD.
