Firmware Upgrade Question

Does the media extender use the sageTv server to download and apply the firmware upgrade or does the extender have to be able to connect to the internet in order to pull down the firmware upgrade?

I am hoping that the answer is yes since my server machine is the only machine on my network that has internet access (I can only get Dial-up where I live ) .

The normal upgrade requires direct access to the internet.

You should be able to do a maunal update. You will have to download the new firmware into your sage directory with the name stx1000.bin. You can then use the manual recovery process documented in the FAQ to update the firmware. You may have to contact Sage support for address to download the new firmware upgrad address.

I agree that the firware should be updated through the server and not around it. I was forced to put my HD externder on a different network beccause of this issue.

Thanks

Carl,

Thanks for the response. I had a notion that this was the case.

Does anyone know if the new extenders about to come out this week will have the lastest firmware on them?

The extender connects through the internet to get its update -- this is done w/o connecting to a local SageTV server.

There is a way to get the update from your SageTV server, though... see the recorvery procedure in this FAQ.

Edit: oh well, too late. But I'll leave it for the link to the FAQ.

Edit2: New extenders would probably have whatever firmware was up to date when they were produced, but they won't have the latest beta firmware. (The beta's firmware file isn't listed in the FAQ either.)

How do you get to the setup menu on the extender when you are already connected to the server?
