Beta 6.4.2 observations
Just a few observations on the 6.4.2 beta.
In order to get my DVB-S source on my HVR-4000 working I needed to delete the source and re-add it. As part of the process there is an option to setup LNB and DISEQC settings. Important to note, that as you can select multiple satellite sources, after you are complete you need to scroll up to the top to save your selections. Unfortunately for me the file name the settings were saved to was not the filename SageTV was looking for when it attempted to use the settings. Renaming the file go me working. Filename created Hauppauge-WinTV-88x-TS-Capture-DVB-S--0.lnb Filename needed Hauppauge-WinTV-88x-TS-Capture-0.lnb Bug submitted. DVB-T for NZ (H.264/AAC) can now be captured, and played back on a PC using the Monogram AAC decoder and I've used the Arcsoft H.264 codec in HD Pack 1.2, however, there is no audio when played back on an MVP or HD extender and the video is not smooth on the HD Extender. Bug submitted. On the plus side, it is nice to have my photos displayed in the correct orientation and all the changes to studio look promising. And I'm sure there's many more pluses to find. John |

I have another plus, BBC HD in the UK now works with CoreAVC codec. It never did for me in the past and I had to use Cyberlink codecs which in my opinion are not as good.
Nice one Sage

The bug fix list for 6.4.2 includes:
-High definition photo display on the STX-HD100 Anyone know what this means? How was it displaying photos before? I don't notice any difference in how photos were displayed before the upgrade, so I'm wondering if I need to set some configuration or if it doesn't really do much as a feature. Also hopefully someone from the Sage team will read this and be able to point me to the item in the bug fix list that addresses the problem where some HD recordings fast forward/skip through to the end when played back (on the HD extender). That said, the update appears to have gone smoothly - everything still works fine. Mitch |

No issues here other than my menus seem to be a little slower than 6.3.10when preview window is active (eg: scrolling through program guide while preview window is displayed)

I do not see anywhere in the Beta notes anything that says the FWD/RWD issue was specifically addressed.

So, am I not seeing any difference because I have the HD100 set up to always output 720p only?

Some HDHR recordings still "fast forward" through
I opened a bug for this problem a couple weeks back and was told it'd be fixed in the next version (presumably that's 6.4.2). Updated the server and my Hd100 to the beta firmware and tested 3 recordings that were doing this - no change in behavior. It still starts to play the recording for a few seconds and then kicks into "fast forward" mode and plays that way all the way through (no sound, about double speed). Pausing and playing will again play for a few seconds and then kick through.
If I run the file through the quick fix function in video redo the resulting fixed file plays fine. Playing back the file via VLC (before and after the fixup with Video Redo) works ok. I see this happen on 3 or 4 shows a week (out of around 20 recorded in HD via the HDHR unit a week). Not the end of the world but certainly annoying.

I'm still seeing green sparkles when the HD Extender is configured to use 1080p . I will have to wait till tonight to see if this beta fixes the stutters I'm experiencing on a regular basis.

The question is, since upgrading to 6.4.2, do recordings still get corrupted? Mitch |

ah... I had thought it was a playback only thing since VLC seems to have no problems.
Well - so far I haven't seen anything but I've only recorded a couple shows on the HDHR since installing it (local news, Conan) - I'll keep an eye on it...
