Large Music Library
I am looking to put my very large music collection on Windows Home Server and run Sage with media extenders to get it to the various rooms. I tried using an XBOX360 to share out my music collection, but the dumb thing just takes forever to pull up every album. If it takes 30s to go between albums, then what's the point.
So...how well does the HD media extender and HD100 media extender handle large music collections? BTW...the server is very capable. 2GB memory, fast HD's, Core2duo 2.4Ghz. |

How large is 'large'?
If you mean tens of thousands of songs, you would probably benefit from increasing the max memory that Java can use on the server -- this post has info regarding increasing the max Java heap size. With plenty of memory & multiple extenders, you might just want to increase it anyway. - Andy

While it's functional, in my experience the extender interface is not very peppy. My music library is only a few hundred CDs, but the extender is slow when browsing through the album cover images, about five seconds between screens. I have very small images, too.
The other thing that hurts is that the extender cannot fast forward or rewind within my flac recorded songs. It's an issue that support knows about and I'm hoping that a future firmware upgrade will fix. |

I'm in the same boat. My library is ~35000 tracks and it's a pain. I came across from meedio which was lightning fast when scrolling through the library. I've done all the java things and no improvement. Sage seems to go and get the image to show every single time whereas I believe meedio created a thumb folder and had no problems. Whatever it was it was fast. I agree with what many people have said here that as sage grows in popularity (which I hope it does b/c other than this it's great) they'll address more of the media centre things and bring it up to speed with the TV section which I absolutely love.
