Smile Haupauge MVP Lock Ups

Hi Guys,

Not sure where to start really being a newbie but the problem is as follows, any help greatly appreciated.

Frequently when playing back recoding or view live TV the picture freezes and I have to reboot the MVP by pulling the power. Somtimes it will go for up to 90 minutes without a glitch but more often than not I only get 10 to 15 minutes of glitch free viewing.

Obviously this is driving me round the twist and have tried changing the aspect ratio, picture quality, User Theme, Optiized Image Loader and other stuff without noticeable improvement.

Using PlaceShifter & Client is fine whether run locally or across the network- Placeshifter has some other niggles to resolve but is OK for now.

The set up is;
Haupauge MVP
http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/pro..._mediamvp.html

Server is Dual Core 3GHz, 100MBS LAN

Cheers
Stuart

What happens on the server side when this happens? Do you have logging enabled?

Server side nothing happens - I can still watch Tv and configure things from the client or placeshifter.

Logging isn't enabled - not sure how but will look this up

Enable logging

You ought to try the service mode too. Don't use the GUI from the server, just service mode to run your MVP. See if that prevents the lockups.

The MVP is basically a solid-state appliance. There isn't much that can go wrong that is the MVP's fault.

Thanks

Service mode seems a little temperamental and I need to map drives for the MP3s and Pictures which is why I am using the "standard" mode running in the system tray.

I'll try this in the next hour amyway and see what happens...

Service is typically much more solid than running the GUI on a server. Plus, it can be set to auto-restart the service (if it were to crash).

You can use UNC mapping with the service. You need to run the sage service with a real username and password, which also has to have R/W rights on the remote drive.

....been running for a few hours now in server mode BUT also with the Aspect ration 16:9 (not default or as original - whatever) and things seem to be OK. Early day yet though.

Does the server software identify the MVP and allocte the appropriate settings to it everytime the MVP is re-booted?

These seem to be OK now. Although not totally convinced I'll try restoring one setting at a time until it stops working again, then post the cause.
