SageMC Observations
Greetings all,
So first off I love SageMC, and I also like most of the Default STV that comes with Sage except for the visual stuff which is why I like to use SageMC. I have been plauqed lately with lockups on my HD Extender, the unit will lock after doing a media library scan for 3-4 minutes, DVD's will play for 10-15 minutes then lock for 3-4 minutes then start playing again. So here is what I did and my observations. When using the defualt Sage STV, my dedicated server runs around 120-150mb for the sagetv service, I dont experience the lockups I do when running the SageMC interface. When using the SageMC STV I experience all of the problems mentioned above plus the SageTV service starts using more and more memory, and usually gets to about 350mb then the HD extender starts acting up. The reason I am posting this here is the fact that I seem to have this narrowed down to being a problem with the SageMC interface and I am wondering if there is a way to help debug this problem. Anyone else experiencing these problems with the SageMC STV? Any way to enable debug logging for the SageMC interface? Thanks in advance

From the tips and tricks sticky at the top of this fourm, enabling debug loggin:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...91&postcount=1 I don't have any lockup issues with SageMC. Never checked the memory usage, so I'm not sure how much it's taking. How much RAM in your server?

Debug logging is enabled.
I have 1gb Ram in the server. Tonight in my ultimate wisdom I decided to do what I have been dreading for weeks, namely move my SageTV server to my W2K3 server where the drive arrays are actually located, I am in the process of doing this now. So I will report back once I get the system back up and running.

OK,
Transfer to the 2K3 server is now complete and dare I say it is running great, it really sped up the interface on both the HD and SD extenders. No more lockups after media import scan. No more lockups when playing DVD's. So far so good.

Congrats! Hopefully it'll stay stable and you'll have this thing dealt with.

I've got two HD extenders which are my main source of TV watching - and they of course run SageMC - the only thing I notice that is not quite as good as a full blown client is that the animations are not quite as smooth.
My server is quite powerful - so I think it's just a limitation of the HD extenders. Lockups are a thing of the past for me. btl.

Still going strong, no lockups, hiccups or farts, "can I say farts? "
I knew I should have done this a few months ago when I built the storage server with W2K3, but noooo I had to suffer and wait. The old server was and Athalon processor, and even though the CPU never got really pushed hard I think there was just not enough oomph, that and the motherboard was getting a little long in the tooth. The new board is an Intel 865GB series, the one with 6 PCI ports, I picked it up from a customer a few months ago when I decided to create my storage array, I didnt want to burden it with Sage, but I was wrong. It flies!
