Pushing "pause" button during video playback...

Hello!

It seems my video playback is not as smooth as it could be. It isn't jerky or anything like that but I notice, expecially when watching news with a scrolling line of text at the bottom, that it isn't quite as smooth as regular TV. I read in the manual where hitting "Pause" on the remote will, of course, pause playback. Hitting it again will advance it one frame. I noticed that I seem to only advance one frame EVERY OTHER push of the button. Not sure if it is just not taking the command every other time (which would seem odd) or if I'm recording/playing back the same frame twice. This might explain why it seems not as "smooth" as regular TV. Again, it isn't terrible but it is noticeable that the ticker isn't quite as smooth as normal.

Is there a setting I should check that might be causing this behavior or does everybody notice this with their remote?

Note: recording standard def signal using PVR-250 and using a pretty beefy machine.
