A little outdated, but pretty close to my current setup. Switched to HDHR.

Thanks. I had previously read that thread and the misc. ramblings.
But it remains unclear to me: For some STB mandated to me by (Time Warner), can Sage work? Do I need to fiddle with Time Warner to try to get a particular one? And one with decrypted analog HDMI out to feed into an encoder to go into Sage?
I'm not interested in over the air/local - only the digital cable channels (I still have analog. I don't even know if our most-watched channels, in digital, are encrypted - such as all the Discovery Inc channels).

In a perfect world there would be a cookbook.

You won't be using HDMI, you'll be using component video, into a hauppauge HD-PVR. So encrypted or not, it doens't matter, as they'll all work fine out the unencrypted analog component video ports.
