HD/SD Out

Hi all,
I'm in the process of getting an LCD HDTV. The model I am leaning towards (Toshiba 46lx177) has a problem with green tint with SDTV content. The question I have is, does the SageTV HD Media Extender push out HD signal regardless of the video origin (SD, HD, etc.)? Or does it switch between 480i and HD depending on the source?

Thanks,
Ben

You can set it either way.

You can set the output to 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, or to use the original video resolution (this is typically used with a high end scaler that would give better upscaling results).

Aloha,
Mike

So is the scaler in the HD100 a good one to use? Also, if I only enable 1080p, will the HD extender stretch the SD videos to fill the screen?

Thanks,
Ben

Hard to answer as that can be kind of subjective. I'm having some issues with it and my SD TV so I'm not thrilled with it, but others think it's fine. It works great for DVD content, it's just interlaced video content that gets iffy for me. I'm fine with the capability considering the price-point. I would have gladly paid a couple hundred more for a model with a good scaler, but I don't think many other people would.

If you want it to stretch it can. If you don't want it to it won't. It has a couple of stock stretch modes, and you can define custom ones if you like.
