Your CPU is probably not up to the task; you need dual-core. I know the 2600 has hardware acceleration but only with apps that support that feature, right?

There is a spec sheet included with the HD PVR that includes some interesting notes. I know you will all be too excited to read anything even remotely resembling instructions when your unit arrives, so I figured I'd type it up. (I wish I had read the second one before I started installing...)

Quote:
- Currently, the HD PVR will operate with the Hauppauge supplied Arcsoft TotalMedia Extreme, plus SageTV and GB-PVR. We also understand BeyondTV will support HD PVR in the next few weeks.
- You might see jerky video in the preview window when recording, depending upon the speed of your PCs processor. Jerky video in the preview window will not necessarily affect HD PVR recordings since preview video quality is sacrificed to ensure the best recordings possible.
- The Hauppauge remote control currently does not operate with Arcsoft TotalMedia Extreme. It can operate with other third party applications.
- Your PC cannot be put into Standby or Hibernate mode while HD PVR is either previewing video or streaming. This will be fixed in the next release of HD PVR driver.
- SPDIF audio capture only works with A/V sources which operate in the PCM audio mode. HD PVR will support SPDIF using Bitstream audio in the next driver release.
- We have supplied a version of MP4_Creator on the HD PVR installation CD. MP4_Creator converts HD PVR recordings into an .MP4 file which can be played back on the XBOX360 and PS3 (fast forward is not yet supported). If you are running Windows Vista, please download the latest version of MP4_Creator from the HD PVR support site.

Unfortunately I was not able to get that working. The IR on the HVR-1600 didn't work either. I believe it was more of an issue with my home system. I have every brand of card and driver installed on this system dating back a couple of years. But we have gotten it to work in other testing at the office so there shouldn't be any issues with it.

So I've been using the UIRT for now since it was installed and ready to go. Capture testing was more of a priority.

My HD100 seems to playback the stuff ok but my client that I can usually play 1080p x264 stuff everything is kinda blurry/slowmoish. I've tried CoreAVC, Arcsoft Video Decoder, the Cyberlink h264 decoder all with similar results. This is on a client machine with an athlon 64 3000+ and an ATI 2600 HD.
Mostly the HD100. But I would typically keep my client PC running and watching live TV all day and I didn't notice anything like that with the Arcsoft decoders.

Check your CPU usage.

My client specs:
AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 5200 (2.61 Ghz)
Nvida 8800 GTS 640 MB

Even with this setup, my CPU was still hitting the 60-70's.

Ya that "UPS Saver" is a bit misleading.

Please, if anyone has any test clips of different bit rates of what this thing can produce (including SD clips) that would be awesome!!!!!

Doesn't matter if you create really small clips even like 5MB for SD would be amazing (while a bigger file would be welcome)!

Please note that as mentioned in this topic a while back, discussions of any issues related to using the HD-PVR should now go in the hardware section of the forum. Any requests for help will be moved there.

Maybe a new topic in the hardware forum should be used to post results of using it too, since this one is quite large & was mostly focused on when it would arrive.

Anyway, this topic is fine as a general discussion of the device, but it isn't a good place to try to get help using it it. Thanks.

Guessing...................

Beyond TV paid to have that Ad card placed in the box, and SageTV did not pony up the moola.

Seriously no-one has unboxing or installation pictures to share with us?

How does it work?
Does it use alot of CPU while capturing?
How does the captured HD play on the HD extender?

Can we get details from actual use not just the spec sheets? Feed us!

I know, I'm sad that no one has done this yet. I would think Brent would.

Sorry, I made a mistake. I don't know why I thought my CPU was that high. It's actually in the low 30's.
