People are probably using the device rather than browsing forums

I know this is somewhat a rediculous question, but is there a guide anywhere on how to set this thing up? I know that the answer is probably no since no one has one yet.

None that I know of yet. I'm assuming it will be posted on Hauppauge's support site for the HD-PVR soon and also assuming there will be an instruction manual in the box - one would hope....

My guess:
1. Plug into AC
2. Connect AV from cable box to HD-PVR input
3. Connect USB from HD-PVR output to HTPC
4. Connect IR blaster to HD-PVR and stick on front of cable/satellite box's IR receiver
5. Turn on HD-PVR
6. Install drivers from included CD
7. Add HD-PVR as tuner in SageTV setup
8. ????

My guess would be that the only difference from any other Tuner, is the driver installation part. From within Sage, I'm expecting it to be just like any other card, and using a USB-UIRT, should be ready to make this thing cook right away.

Didn't you leave something cooking on the stove when you left the house this morning?

Was searching for more info on the HD PVR and this place seems to be the most active.

I ordered one a couple weeks ago. My goal is not to build a HTPC but just grabbing all the HD content off my 750 gig external hard drive.

Then I was thinking if I can watch TV on the computer using this device? I mean watching the HD channels that my cable service is offering. If it's possible will Hauppauge be offering a TV app? or will this SageTV work?

Thanks

I do not have the order number on me, but I know that it was in the supposed second group.

SageTV has been testing the unit for a while and says it will work with the latest beta. Stay tuned for more info though.

How do you mean? Are you playing back the HD content from the hard drive to your computer? This device is intended to provide a means to take Analog Component HD Video and put it on the Hard Drive.

Hauppauge will be including a TV app so that you can watch a Premium HD channel with your settop box feeding HD video to the HD-PVR. Of course, this being the SageTV forum, all will likely agree that the Hauppauge app is fine, but not nearly as feature rich as SageTV. Also, if you, like many others, aren't interested in building an HTPC, you can buy the Sage HD-100 Media extender and watch your HDTV from your PC on your TV.

Actually; that's not really true. There's no real TV watching application that comes with the HD-PVR. It's just a recording/burning application (i.e. no pausing live TV, the WinTV software doesn't work with this device).

So you'll definitely want to use it with SageTV.

Yes, I have a DVR with the cable company which I then installed a 750 gig external hard drive to it. Saved lots of HD stuff on it and this product is just what I was looking for to get the content to my computer.

and my other question is that I just wanted to watch TV mostly the HD channels on my computer. There wasn't a TV tuner card out there to my knowledge that would allow you to watch these premium HD channels but seems this product will work.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, that's what I meant. Wanted a TV watching app where I can watch the SD and HD channels on my computer. Guess I'll have to shell out more $$$ for SageTV

Mine got delivered today!!! I got tracking info yesterday, which said that it would get here Monday, so I was rather surprised to find it on my doorstep this afternoon. I just got it all hooked up, now I have to install the drivers and the new Sage beta software. I'll check back when I'm through...
