Quick sports scores listing through Sage
Alright, so I found a solution to my own question (which no one responded to below). Hopefully some of you can use this.
If you have cable or satellite (and ESPNews), or if you use Sage on your PC (and hence access to the web is just as easy as going through Sage), then this is probably not for you. But if you are only using Sage on a TV with an extender, and the server is in a remote place in your house (like me), and you are OTA-only, it's pretty convenient. Go to the website www.totallyscored.com. It allows you to create a personal scoreboard by choosing either the particular sports you want, or, if you want to get more specific, teams within any sport (using checkboxes for all "major" college and pro sports). Note that it does not have "event winners" (a NASCAR race, a tennis tournament, a golf tournament, etc.), just team sports scores. It gives no details at all, just final scores, when games are final. Once you customize your scoreboard by picking the sports or teams that you want, it gives you (at the top of the page) a customized URL link to that scoreboard. Using the "Custom online video links" feature in the current version of SageTV, just plug in that link. It's not video, but when you click on the "Recent Sports Scores" box under your "custom links", what you get are individual boxes, each with a score in it. None of these boxes with scores in them link to anything - they don't even link to anything on the actual website - but it gets you all the scores you are looking for quickly. The only "downside" is that the scores are often listed for multiple days; though they are in chronological order, if you pass the cursor/highlight over any box, it gives you the date and time that the score was posted, so you can keep things straight that way. I figure, if you just got up in the morning, or just got home from being out, and you quickly wanted to get a score from a favorite team, this is a quick and easy way to pull it up on the TV. Hope someone else finds it useful.
