Chipmunk Audio
Has anyone found a solution to this problem yet? I seem to get it after a show has been compressed/converted.
I also sometimes get the opposite - really slow sounding audio with really deep voices. |

What version are you using? Extender or direct connection? |

this may be rehashing the issue, but I fixed mine (before the HD100) by converting the audio from ac3 to stereo. the transition from SD commercial to HD program would confuse the transcoder greatly and cause the chipmunk problem.

I've seen this thread, but it looks like it just died off without a resolution.

Extender as in HD Extender? Wow - never seen that... If you mean MVP - then yes, still happens to me sometimes too. I don't have an answer other than to compress it or live with it (live with it = jump forward then jump backward and it goes away).

Doesn't go away for me. I have opened a case with support, we'll see where it goes.

Resolution???
Did you ever get this resolved? I've seen a lot of discussions on this issue. When I contacted Sage, George said he never heard of it before... While watching a show, it will work fine, but then when there is a commercial and it's in a different display format or something, sometimes I then get the chipmunks. If I continue to watch the commercials, the chipmunking carries over into the show. If I fast forward past the commercial and back into the show, the audio corrects itself. I've always been told to update to the latest. I just did it again and I'll have to wait and see if it's really fixed this time. I would think not if the support has never even heard of it happening...
One of my Fringe episodes was all deep-demon voices. I was kind of pissed, but it was pretty funny. Glad I could still watch it online. |

hasn't happened to me for the couple versions. I use sage on HD Extenders, MVPs, and placeshifter. No issues...

Ok, I had the deep demon audio thing happen to me once a while ago, and read this thread, chalked it up to a fluke, and moved on.
I just had it occur again tonight on LOST (recorded with HDHR). I cannot reproduce this, and it seems to be a very rare occurrence rate. Did anyone ever nail this one down?

Reception
I've been told many of the problems I have had is due to reception issues. My demon audio happens sometimes between broadcast format changes. On some shows, a local news commercial comes on and if I let it go right from the commercial back to the show, I get the demon sound. If I skip/FF over between the commercial and to the show, the sound fixes itself.

So this seems a little strange, but the LOST file still plays with demon audio on the HD200. However, it plays fine on a PC using mPlayer, and on my ClientPC using Sage. I went back, rebooted the HD200 (by unplugging) and it still has the low audio.
I cannot detect any difference in any information between this file and one that plays back correctly. Any way to verify this? jjstok - I think we may be talking about different issues. This never goes away, and does not appear to be related to signal strength, skipping does not change anything.

Demon
I think we are talking about the same thing, maybe just different causes. I do have shows time to time that have been nothing but demon voices throughout the whole recording and I've just have to dump the shows. Actually its been a while and I think it would happen after I compressed certain recordings.
I assume you are using cable or satelitte. I'm using a HD antennae which is why my signal fluctuates causing some of my problems I believe. If you have software for your video card you may be able to look at the signal strength. I can watch anything on my HD TVs and it always looks great. Something about the way it is recorded, the signal strength seems to make a difference.

The source is HDHR via QAM (digital cable). For this channel, signal strength is ~92%, signal quality ~94%, and symbol quality 100% and stable. All of these are measured through HDHR GUI software.
I am really looking for the explanation on why this is only seen on the HD200 playback, but not the client or a PC using other software (specifically mPlayer). (another note is that I can't get audio at all when playing any HDHR recordings through the latest released version of VLC, not sure what's going on with this).

I had the deep demon voice audio via OTA HDHR recording of The Sarah Connor Chronicles last Friday. Played back on a HD100
Happy to see I'm not in the wilderness alone

I feel pretty alone out here. I never really get good answers.

I had this, or at least something very similar, happen once a couple weeks ago. I was actually able to fix the recording by trimming the first couple seconds from the start (I used the mpeg editor that came with my Hauppauge software, though I am sure any video editor would do) and saving over the original.
I'm not sure if I trimmed out the "bad" part, or if the simple act of re-saving the recording is what fixed it, but subsequently the recording played properly on my HD100. This is obviously a workaround rather than a solution, but it may be more practical than the alternative, ie. obtaining a copy of the missed recording through other means. |

I copied the LOST file to an import directory (changing nothing at all), and refreshed my imported media. It played perfectly fine on my HD200!
This is a great workaround, but I am afraid it means this will be even harder to pin down, given that if the file is copied and imported, it will play back without the issue.

I have had a couple of programs play with the slow voices on my HD200 and chalked it up as a fluke as well. Had another on the Idol show last Wednesday. This was recorded from OTA to an HDHR tuner.
In searching I have not found how this was ever resolved. Any updates? |
