Clips from recordings

Can I extract smaller clips from shows recorded in SageTV? For example, if I have recorded a one hour show and I want to extract a 15 minute clip from it, is it possible to do it from within SageTV?

Not from within SageTV.

I use VideoRedo (google it) to do what you're asking.

Can we import the videos directly to Video Redo? Or do we have to add video files that beyond TV makes?

TV recordings are mpeg files which Videoredo opens. The other plus is that Bob Phoenix has made a SageTV plugin (VideoEdit) that uses the Videoredo (or TV Suite program)right from within SageTV. Exactly what you're looking for.

Plus if you use comskip or showanalyzer it can read the generated commercial marks automatically.

Thanks for your reply. This has considerably solved my problem. But there is a small problem. My requirement is to make an archive of around 60 channels. That means 24x7 recording of all 60 channels. At any specific time, I will require the recording of commercials from within some TV shows. Yes, thats right! I need recordings of TV commercials.

I'd say that this solves a small portion of your problem and that recording 60 channels 24/7 is the "Considerable" part that is not easily solvable.

And you can very easily change Videoredo so that it keeps the commercials and cuts the rest. It also excels at batching your videos. I haven't explored those options from the SageTV plugin perspective but externally Videoredo will do it all for you. But if for the majority you're cutting the commercials than those can be done in Sage. Check out the documentation with the plugin and also the forums at Videoredo for all the features. But honestly, 60 channels of TV recordings is more than a full time job.

Yes, a considerable portion of the problem. So far, I have not made up my mind as to what hardware to use. Its either a mix of PCI, PCIe and USB tuners or a solution that consists of only USB tuners. So, any recommendations?
