Help with hokey channel setup

I am considering using Sage for my media center, but I am having trouble getting it set up properly. Whenever I try to enter my Canadian postal code for the channel setup, I am unable to get numbers put into the field.

I'm not sure what the point of the hokey telephone keypad is, but it unnecessarily complicates the process. When I go to enter a number, it brings up a line of the associated letters and numbers as you would find on a telephone keypad. When I try to use the cursor arrows to go to the number, it jumps me completely out of that menu.

Is there any kind of work around for this ridiculous feature? I would rather edit a text file than try to navigate through this foolishness. I would rather use Sage than Windows Media Center, but if I can't customize it the way I want, I'll be forced to give Micro$oft more money...

I really don't want to do that...

Help!!

That's called Numeric Text Input (or Entry) and works like a telephone pad in the sense that you press the same number repeatedly, not the arrow keys, to go to the next character for that number.

The icon at the top of the screen indicates using the Pause key to change input mode. For more information about it, see p. 185 of the v6.3B PDF manual, where the options for that feature are explained.

I second the frustration ... especially on NUMERIC input fields... it is ridiculous to have to cycle through all of the letters when the only valid inputs are numeric...

Then see the documentation that I referred to above so you can learn how to use that feature -- as I said, Pause switches modes, which includes upper case, lower case, and simple number entry.

It depends on the field -- examples: The zip/postal code mentioned above knows to switch to numeric input unless the country is Canada, because they can have letters in their codes. And, I believe the dialog to enter a search location for weather config defaults to numbers only if you are in the US so you can just enter your zip code. There may be other places that do something similar... and there there may be places that ought to but don't do that yet.

You also have to remember that what might be all numbers for one person may not be for someone else.
