No Audio on Music

Hi,

Finally getting my HD100 integrated into my stereo. However, I can't get any audio output when I try to play music. When I select a movie, I do get sound. In addition, it doesn't act the same when I use the HD100 vs my PC client. When I select a song on my PC and say play it pulls up the play/pause/etc console and plays. On the HD100, it just accepts the play input and then nothing. I have the latest sageTV software and latest firmware.

Any idea what I've done wrong?

Thanks,

John

It almost sounds like it may be a permissions problem on your music import. But I'm not sure. Is your music import a UNC path or a local path on the server?

UNC if I have the meaning right. I have SageTV running on my Windows Home Server box (server is called Babylon). The music import is setup for //Babylon/Music. On my laptop, I'm running a Sage Client and I can access and play the music just fine. Would a permissions problem allow me to see, but not play the music files?

On Wndows you can always see the files regardless of the permissions. (Unless the files are actually set to hidden.)

So I need to set the permissions on a per sage client basis? How do you do that ? I haven't had to deal with permissions before. I tried turning on the guest access on WHS, but it didn't help.

Thanks,

John

No Audio on Music (using WHS and HD100)

Hi,

I have SageTV running on a WHS (windows home server) box. The frontend is an HD100. I can start and watch movies just fine (audio and video). However, I can't get any music to play. I can select a title and it says adding to now playing list, but then nothing happens. When I try it on my laptop client, I get music to play just fine. Is there a setup I need to configure for the HD100 to work with my server?

Thanks,

John

No you don't have to set permissions on a client basis per se. Make sure on your WHS server you're using a user with a password to run the Sage service and that user is in the Administrator group. See the quote below for setting the access to the shared folder.

Here are some how to's for WHS:
WHS How To's

From the tutorial:
Quote:
Okay, you just need to tell Home Server who can access the new folder, and whether they’re allowed to just read files from it, or also save files to it (the Read/Write option). Just click the radio button underneath one option (Read, Read/Write or No Access) for each user and the click Next. I decided that both my wife and I need to read files from the folder, and save files to it, so we both get Read/Write Access. I don’t want guests accessing these documents, so they get No Access.

I checked under services and it is set as a local system account. I also checked my folder options and they all have read enabled. It is just strange that my laptop can play music, but not the extender. Makes me wonder if it is a login thing somehow.

Yes. Because if you are using "local system" under services, it can't pass the files on UNC'd folders/drives to the extender. Your Sage Client can access those UNC paths directly so in essence they "bypass" this issue. Either use an account that exists on both machines (and are the same) OR you need to turn services off and run sage thru the software....

Ok, that all makes sense. If my extender is an HD100, I can't use a common account can I? What does "run sage through the software" mean?

Thanks alot for working with me on this.

Your HD Extender uses the server to access those files and thus whatever ID you have running the Sage service. You need to uncheck local service and run as a user with a password and in the Administrator group. (It can be the administrator or create a user and make sure that user is also in the Administrator group.)

I'll give it a try when I get home, but I'm still confused as to why if the login is the problem, I can watch videos and view photos just fine. Only music I can't listen to.

Maybe your videos and photos are being stored locally on the server. What directories do you have listed for those? If you're using the shares that WHS creates those are local drives to the box.

I am using the shares that WHS created - that is why I'm having trouble understanding why the \Videos work, but not the \Music. Seems like both should work or not work.

very confused.

Tried setting login to user as Adminstrator, but no luck. I guess I'll try re-installing sage on WHS, maybe that will help. Not sure what else to try.

Could someone who has HD100 working with WHS help me?

I have been working for days, trying different things, re-installing sage, etc, and I can't get the HD100 to fully work with my WHS box. I can view photos, and watch videos, but I can't play anything from my music folder. I've tried to go step by step through any FAQ I've found, but I'm doing something wrong. I'd really appreciate some help getting this to work. SageTV is a service on the WHS box. I've tried Local System Account and Log On as (where I created a sageTV user and put them in the admin group). I currently have my sageTV configured as importing \\localhost\Music \\localhost\Photos \\localhost\Videos, which was the default install locations. In the past I've tried renaming them to \\Babylon\Music, etc, where Babylon is my server name.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm so frustrated I'm having trouble thinking straight on this.

Thanks,
John

  1. Create a new account with password on your WHS server (let's call it sage for discussion).
  2. Go to Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Computer Management.
  3. Find the Users and Groups item and add sage to the Administrators group.
  4. Set the SageTV service to use the newly created sage account and restart the service.
  5. Set up all of your import and recording UNC paths in SageTV as \\Babylon\...
Hopefully that will do the trick.

Aloha,
Mike

I've tried those before, but I went over the list to make sure. I have an account SageTV and I went the computer mgmt and it was in the admin group. I set the service and restarted. I changed \\localhost to \\Babylon. I can watch videos and see photos but I can't play the music. All the songs can be seen, but pressing play says it is adding to my playlist, but nothing after that.

Any other ideas?

Thanks so much.

John

Can't listen to music on placeshifter

Hi,

I've been fighting an issue with music not playing for days now. I have an HD100 that plays videos and photos just fine, but not music. I just loaded the placeshifter on my laptop and it also can't play music. However, the client software on my laptop can play music. So apparently it is something with the placeshifter functionality. I can see the music choices, but when I select them to play, it just adds them to the play list, but never plays them. I can play videos and view photos just fine.

Any thoughts? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,

John
