If you install neilm's CPU Monitor, you can see this easily. The only drawback on my box is the video will jerk a little. I use AC3Filter. I thought the high CPU use was related to "Always Scan" the import directories, but when I disabled that, it still occured. It's a 1% annoyance to me as it doesn't really affect my viewing, but I can confirm repeatable interval, max CPU usage, lasting about 10 seconds each. It was in 6.3.5 as well.

Well, based on Polypro's post there are a couple of different issues mixed together here. But changing the audio decoder should help at least some of us.

I'll continue to observe, to see if I am still getting any CPU spikes that last a while, or if I should get any garbled video (none so far). Might be the audio decoder issue was masking another problem still shared by us. Time will tell...

I changed from the "SageTV MPEG Audio Decoder" (the default) to something that was on my system called "MPEG Audio Decoder" and my CPU went from 100% spikes (completely freezing everything for minutes at a time) and about a 40% CPU average to around a 9% CPU and no spikes.

Definitely something funky with the Sage default decoder.

Support asked that I change to using AC3Filter for my audio decoder to resolve the issue.

I did and it worked. I could NOT recreate the "hang UI" lockup. I switched back to SageTV MPEG audio decoder and was able to recreate the "hang UI" very quickly. I also saw the CPU spikes for a minute or more, return.

This seems to have worked for me as well, so far after switching to the A3C Filter my issues have been almost resloved. i still notice an occassional CPU spike, but the problem is not nearly as bad.

Thanks pseudonym

Still working great here with the AC3Filter, haven't seen any of the funny CPU spikes, 'delayed' UI with the circular grey cursor while I wait for SageTV to move on, etc.

I have nothing against using one of the other audio decoders but since I was happy with the SageTV decoder and it does come with the product I hope they fix it soon!
