Suggestion for new feature

After running 6.3.10 for a while, I've really come to like the podcasts feature. The one big improvement that I can think of is the ability to add subscriptions so that the videos are downloaded in the same way that TV shows are recorded. A lot of this content is just like a TV show.

The current online method works well, but it sometimes takes a while to download an episode. Putting the subscribed episodes in the recordings section would put this content on a equal footing with TV shows.

You should be able to download the podcasts by installing podcatcher software on the computer. The podcatcher software automatically downloads new 'subscribed' podcasts.

I normally manually download "Cranky Geeks" and "DL.TV".

In the past, I only automatically downloaded audio podcasts, but I think the podcatcher software should also work to automatically download video podcasts.

I will try setting up the podcatcher software to download video podcasts.

If a podcatcher was integrated into the SageTV GUI, it would be even better.

Yes, I agree. The podcatcher thing really doesn't work all that well for me. I run SageTV as a service. I'm not often logged into the computer. I just want all the new subscribed content to auto-magically be there when I access it. If I have to log into my server to do the downloads, why not just do this interactively in front of the TV?

I think that it's time to treat the video podcasts like TV shows. The "online" section would make a great guide for the content and let to watch as you would live TV. It should also allow you to subscribe so that have the shows in the recordings area.
