SageMC My Videos Menu is Slow/Blank myVideos

Hey,

When scrolling in sageMC every few scrolls I get the loading icon for around maybe 20+ secs before I can continue. This gets extremely annoying to browse through my directories, plus I don't get this problem with the default skin, only with SageMC.

i've just tried reinstalling, but I get the same problem

Any suggestions?

Something that *might* help, try increasing the Java max heap size. I don't recall the location of the thread about it.

Didnt' seem to help I reformatted and everything seemed fine but in the few hours since, its gone again. I wonder if a driver I installed is causing it or something

Urghhh! This is irritating me loads now, I think my Wiz files were corrupt so i deleted them and started afresh, but then the video folder on MC was black and Sage basically froze. So i uninstalled and wiped the sagetv directory and reinstalled from scratch, and I still get a blank screen in video with SageMC (not with the default skin) What the hell is going on? Trust this to all break just days after I bought it. I'm not happy

The only thing I can suggest is to generate a debug log (instructions linked in flachbar's sig in the main SageMC thread) and post it either here or in the SageMC thread.

Aloha,
Mike

Try turning off the automatic thumbnail generation. Change your properties files. Shut down Sage and edit.

video_thumbnail_generation=false

You could have trouble generating a video thumbnail on a video.

Hey,

I stopped generating thumbnails and I also changed from UNC paths to local paths, which let me back into the videos menu, but it's still slow sometimes hanging... the error log seems interesting:

Bearing in mind all thumbnails have been turned off in sageclient properties and sage properties (and i've switched UAC off for the moment so no virtual store is involved) it seems its still trying to do it, and thats causing it to hang

Oh and i'm also getting this message a lot:

Update: I've put all these folders into one master folder and imported that. This seems to be better as not so many files are on one page at any one time as sage shows the folders... but

I have it setup like this
Stored Videos -
- TV Shows
- DVD rips
- Movies

TV Shows and DVD rips work fine in sage, but Movies is the one which is generating the thumbnail errors shown above. I'm not sure what in this folder is causing sage not to like it, its not massive plus i initially thought it could be because of the fact not all decoders are installed yet, but TV Shows has files which also dont have the decoder installed yet.
The current conclusion I've come up with is... DVR-MS files. The other folders have none, but movies has a few from when I used media center, and lake placid (which was in one of the logs eariler) IS a DVR-MS file (well was, I deleted it to rule it out). I'm going to move all the DVR-MS files out of it and report back...

Yup its DVR-MS, removed them all and sage is super fast. Damn microsoft eh? Anyway I can fix this? or am I going to be forced to convert them all (none have been recorded from encrypted sources).

I just started having the same problems as listed above.

Here is a snippit from my debug log. I'm assuming this may be the problem...Any advise?

FWIW, I was having some really big Video Library speed issues until I deleted all of my folder.jpg's and then everything got snappy again.

Yeah, now I just use the auto-generated thumbnails. Its a small price to pay to be able to press a button and not have to wait a minute for it to do something

So I guess this is a known unsupportable issue.

How do people deal with large video libraries and cover art?

I have 400+ movies and dont have this problem, so far.
I have five 500GB HDD with one folder in each HDD. Each HDD & folder is named Movies 1 upto Movies 5 for each HDD, within that folder is the films and the cover art. The cover art is named exactly the same as the movie, so I dont need to use folder.jpeg. I also dont allow the cover art disc size to go above 35k by editing each image with photoshop.

Hopefully by reducing the size of the cover art this will allow me to keep adding movies for a while yet.
