Are they selling the Q6600 with G0 stepping (SLACR) that overlocks much better? Or, are they selling the Q6600 B3 stepping (SL9UM) that does not overclock as well. NewEgg refuses to disclose which model will be shipped.

If you're using it as a headless server - there is no need to overclock it (at least that I've found). I have 6 tuners (3 OTA HD, 3 SD) driving 5 extenders (mix of MVPs and HD Extenders) and run SA commercial skipping. CPU utilization is never above 5-10% - even with everything busy (recording 5 shows, commercial skip analysis on them, and 5 extenders on playing different shows).

I haven't found the need to overclock my E6850 either. The E6850 3.0 gig dual-core can handle my current situation without overclocking. At the time I purchased the E6850, I considered buying a Q6600 instead, which runs at 2.33 gig. If I did purchase a Q6600, I would want to make sure to buy the G0 version instead of the B3 version, even if I did not have immediate plans to overclock the CPU. The Q6600 G0 gives more flexibility to overclock in the future if more processor speed is needed, without replacing the processor with a faster unit.

Microcenter (at least the one in Marietta Ga.) is selling the G0 stepping units. I bought mine there for $199.99. A couple of days later I saw them at Fry's for $189.99. I do not know which version Fry's is selling. Jesse

Plus, doesn't the G0 gives off less heat?

Yeah, its worth the trouble to make sure you get the G0. I've got the one before and it runs pretty hot, although 100% stable.
