Celeron 440 for HD Sage server?
I've been using Sage for XP for quite a while and I'm semi-fluent with Linux. But I don't know too much about HD power needs. I'm going to put together a dedicated headless Sage server w/~1TB HDD on OS-RAID. I plan on using on HD-MPV (whenever they come back in stock) and at least two SD.
I'd like to keep the machine as cool as possbile, HDDs notwithstanding. So I was looking at the 35W TDP Conroe-L Celerons. Will a Celeron 440 have enough juice to decode h.264 on the fly for the SD boxes? It won't have to do anything else except be a file server and handle related Sage tasks. I'd prefer not overbuying for this, but I also don't want to have dropped frames and stuttering, etc. I know, I think, that if I were to do this with XP, I'd need a little more CPU power. Do any of you have a similar setup or advice as to what I should be looking for? Thanks for the info. CT |
