Verizon QIP2500 and DirecTVSerial

So - I'm guessing the DirecTVSerial control does not mean Direct TV (as in the service) but means to control the channel changing via the serial port and is not specificially for the Direct TV STBs. If so, the question now becomes as to where the specs are for the QIP 2500 and if it takes a normal serial cable to change the channels or what I need to do to get sage to change the channels with this STB. Works fine with my old direct TV STB's but I'm switched now to Verizon FIOS.

Please help as I'm trying to figure out if there is any way to control the QIP2500 with the serial port or USB. If it can be controlled with the serial port then how does Sage do it since I'm guessing the DirecTVSerial is only for a DTV STB and not the Verizon FIOS QIP2500. What software or plug in does sage use to change the channel if the Serial port can be activiated.
